Pretty ignorant on this subject.
Can anyone recommend a good service for web hosting.
Looking for something that is free and will support Korean and English.
I not only don't know much about this, I don't know what I don't know yet.
Thanks in advance for the help. |

What do you mean when you say 'support Korean and English'? Do you mean the webpages will have Korean font(writing) on them or do you mean the interface through which to administer your website should have the option of being in Korean or English?
Free web hosts are commonly available and usually come with one or more cons or limiting factors such as:
- Pop up advertisements whenever somebody visits your site
- Banner ads embedded on your sites page
- Limited technologies for implementing functionality on your site
- Different methods of updating the site (FTP, web based etc.)
When somebody is evaluating a free web host, they usually weigh out the respective disadvantages of each of the hosts and choose based on that.
If you want to have a very simple website with a bit of Korean text then you should have no problem. What type of functionality do you require on the website? Based upon these criteria it will be easier to recommend a web host. |

This is exactly what I meant when I said I don't know what I don't know.
More specific needs:
1. I need the site to have Korean and English script. Support and admin should be in English.
2. Complex functions are not really necessary. I'm just looking for an easy site to do some advertising with. I guess my biggest concern due to the advertising intent is "findability" of the site. I want Koreans to be able to find the site quickly with searches on daum and naver.
Again thanks for the help. |

1 isn't a problem, any free web host can accommodate this.
As for number 2...
Daum and Naver are out of my area of expertise.
The whole business of making your website desirable customers is known as 'search engine marketing' or SEM. It includes the whole gamut of tactics including(but not limited to) paying for advertisements, linking to your site from other sites (such as this one), submitting your site to search engines and making your site search engine friendly etc.
Unfortunately I know a bit about the Google and popular American search engines but practically nothing about Daum and Naver. If you are entering a competitive industry then I expect you'll have to pay for your results to appear near the top of the Korean search engines. Naver works differently than Google so my own knowledge (and there's tons of advice around the internet) may not apply to Naver/Daum.
I think having your site hosted in Korea gives a slight advantage in Google.co.kr (but having said that there are 1000's of factors Google takes into account and Google only has a very small proportion of the Korea market). |

With Google it usually helps if you hone in on a niche market. I imagine it's similar with Daum/Naver. |

Thanks tfunk, you confirm what I've found. I really need to host my site through Daum or Naver. Guess I'll be sifting through that for the next couple days, and getting some help from my brother-in-law.
If anyone out there has any experience with setting up a website through the local search engines, any insight and advice would be very much appreciated. |
