Just been asked for advice on what to write for the GEPIK essay competition. A friend has been told by her school that she MUST do it.
5-8 pages of 12 point font ~ by my calculations that's about 6000-10,000 words. Might be a bit out on that though.
Also include lesson plans, materials or any other documents relating to the essays. Top price is 500k
Told her to do it if she wants otherwise ask the school where it says in her contract that she must write essays.
Anybody else doing it?

Yeah? Come again...
Simple, choose NOT to compete. |

My school didn't tell me about it. I think they're secretly hoping I'll abstain.
And, yeah, nobody "must" do anything. Just don't do it if you don't want to. That cash prize is tempting, though. |

Forgot to add, last date to submit is 21st November.
It's basically about how to improve English education in Korea.
I'll check the website and see what they have on it. |

| No one is getting 500,000 won. The winner will be some invented teacher, and they'll recycle a submission from last year as the prize-winning paper. Then the judges will go out for sushi. |

It's double-spaced, so by my estimation that's 1500-2500 words. |

Are you positive it's double spaced?

I don't know, EPIK has been pretty legit thus far, any proof if what you say is true? |

Read the information thing for it now.
Doesn't say double spaced on it anywhere. |

| Just say what they want to hear. Praise them at every corner and you`ll win just like the Dokdo essay. |

I just read it too. You're right, it doesn't specify.
That means it should be 3,000-5,000 words (if single-spaced).
That's would be a lot to write for this kind of contest. |

No, just don't count on winning. More like if your co-teacher is a go-getter kiss ass you have a better chance of winning. |

I'm tempted to compete in this. But the fact it is an obvious lesson plan/material grab and my sneaking suspicion that the winner will be fictional keeps me away.
The winner will be a sycophantic Korea pash though. |

I wonder if schools are asking people they think are ignorant about the situation in Korea and will write superficial things.
They are gearing up propaganda for something. Wonder what it's for this time. Maybe a recruitment drive in South Africa? |
