I work for Oedae in Kwangju and am very happy, but I think it really depends on the school...what city are you thinking about going to? |

I echo Jasmine's comment. There are at least two different Oedae Language institutes. There's the big chain that is actually some kind university subsidiary, if I am not mistaken. And then there's the one institute in Jongno, right behind Pagoda. If that's the one that you are going to then I would think twice. They have recently had numerous problems with admin there, but up until a few months ago all was well. I know at least six people who work in Jongno Oedae, and all were relatively happy until admin started a control-freak period that had at least one teacher fired and one five-year teacher declined for her sixth contract for no reason. So if that's the one, stay away for now.
There's also the children's school in Daechi-dong which has always been a disaster. Unless things have completely changed, I would steer clear of that one too . |

I'm at the Oedae school in Hwajeong along with three other teachers. It's a franchise (or something similar) and this owner is good and I've had none of the problems or horror stories I've heard from others (knock on wood). As the other posters have said, it depends on the school. A lot of the big names are really franchises and each one is different. |

Just a general word of hagwan caution. As the economy in Korea gets worse and schools lose students, it will be Blame the Waygook season. I for one never took one iota of cr*p off hagwans and this advice is still good for anyone. |

I currently work for Oedae language institute and I didn't use any recruiters, well not really. The recruiter for Oedae contacted me. I posted my resume on the net. Working for Oedae so far has not been bad, I have a fairly new apartment, have always been paid on time, and haven't really had any problems with them. I have been here for 3 months. |
