180,000 Illegal Korean Immigrants in the U.S. May Receive Legal Status
The proposal allows illegal immigrants with work experience to apply for a temporary working visa and permits them to apply for a green card which grants permanent residency. The Korean government estimates about 180,000 out of the 2.3 million Koreans in the U.S. are illegal immigrants, but some say the number may exceed 500,000.

Most illegal immigrants here are not from North America, they are from Asia.

Koreans are at little difficulty to enter the states thru Canada because they are easier to obtain Canadian passports.

The position of the U.S., not unreasonably, is that part of Canada's job is not to become a free conduit for the passage of terrorists.

The position of the U.S. should be to keep its nose out of another (friendly, and one of the few at that) country's foreign policy.

Um, not saying you're wrong exactly, but are you aware that Koreans must become Canadian citizens before being able to receive a Canadian passport? And that one of the prerequisites to citizenship is at least 3 years residency? So any 'Korean' entering the US on a Canadian passport is actually for all intents and purposes a Canadian...

uh, sorry, my mistake.

I meant a visiting visa,,, Embarassed

That seems to be the process. They get into Canada as a visitor and then it's straight off to the states...thus never to be heard from again.

Although I AM Canadian (and Canada produces the best beer by the way), I must agree that I'm sick of "illegal immigrants" using this country as an easy passage to America.

How many Koreans do you personally know who have done this?
How many have you heard of?
How many news reports have you seen?
I think you're confusing Koreans with other nationalities.

I'm Canadian and I'm glad to see them go- can you guess why?
(And we don't even come close to making the world's best beer- have you been brainwashed by Molson commercials or something? Twisted Evil )

AS a matter of fact, I just happen to know someone who is part of a ring that smuggles Koreans to the U.S straight from the airport. It's his job to pick them up at the airport, hand over forged passports that have been produced in advance, and then drive them over the border. Don't ask me how I know,,, And from his testimony, there are many like rings out there (and I'm only talking about Vancouver!), Bulsajo. Pertaining to your response, I wouldn't know why you're "glad to see them go", uh, maybe 'cuz you're a sympathest to terrorists?!?

And there are numerous news reports of Koreans getting caught at the bordor. May this post not offend you but it's no question that America is a desired country for them to escape to. And "them" means the above-mentioned, Koreans. Have I answered all your questions? Cool

Oh, by the way, YES, CANADA DOES PRODUCE THE BEST BEER Exclamation
