|
|
I just posted a reply to another post about a new mexican restaurant that opened downtown...i want to simply give everyone that didn't read the other thread the heads up.
I'm from San Diego, and used to great mex food. I've been all around Seoul, from Taco Chili Chili to Choi's Tacos...chock up Panchos, Dos Tacos, and now On the Border...i'd have to say that this new place is my favorite of the bunch--by far.
Great Carne Asada Tacos...Big burritos, fantastic salsa and guac...
And all VERY AFFORDABLE. Tacos are 3,800/each...burritos are 6,800 each.
The place is PACKED at lunch. It's doing some great biz....if anyone is from the US, think Chipotle....similar concept and menu.
The name of the place is called Tomatillo: The Taco Place
i think the website is www.tomatillo.co.kr
You can find it outside of exit 6 at jongak station(line 1) right next to Au Bon Pain...
Enjoy!

I'll give it a shot. It couldn't be any worse than what they pass off a Mexican food over here. |

Thanks for the tip, OP. Those of us from states with large spanish-speaking populations should be more knowledgable about Tex-mex.
I actually had someone, on this board, insist that the best Mexican food comes from England. Whatever. |

| 3,800 is STILL a lot for a taco. How big are they? |

The place isn't necessarily cheap, but cheaper and better quality than other options. 2 tacos usually fills me up--they really pile on the meat.
If you're thinking about the taco trucks in LA where you can get 3 tacos for like 1.50...this ain't it.
I'm actually on my way over there right now to grab one of their big burritos...having it next to my building is definitely a perk. |

I ate there tonight. It's definitely good. Is it better than On The Border? No way.
But it's cheaper. 6,800 for a burrito, or 7,300 for the Carne Asada steak burrito. Add chips, salsa, rice and beans for 2,000 more. That's a total of 8,000 (or 8,500) for what costs you 15,000 or so at On The Border.
Given the good quality, good price and central Jongno location, I'll be there quite a bit. |

| Not a lot going on on that website linked to above. How are they compared to Dos Tacos or Chili Chili in HBC? |

downtown Busan? downtown Gwangju? ... oh... downtown Seoul
don't assume most people think of Seoul automatically especially since THE MAJORITY of ESL teachers in Korea do not live in Seoul, most Canadians do not live in Toronto, most Americans don't live in New York, etc.
seriously
go to Dave's Seoul forum to assume that

The title of this thread includes 'Jonggak station' in it. |

| That was truly the best taco I've had in a looooooong time. Chiptoles was a good comparison. The guy is really good at what he does. Five stars - best TexMex food I've ever had in Korea. |

You miss the point with flying colors!
Busan, Gwangju and a couple of other cities also have subway systems. I live near Busan and have taken the subway sometimes on weekends though have never memorized subway staion names except for three or four obvious ones.
You ASSUME we should automatically think of Seoul. Oh the oh so famous Jonggak station. lol I have no idea where it is or what's near it. Except for a Mexican restaurant which I found out by clicking the thread.
Go to Dave's Seoul forum. ... Oh yeah, it doesn't exist.
Seriously... lose the centricity
