I wanna say is Brazil the most coolest palce on Earth but its just not. I wanna be popular and cave to heavy PC peer pressure but my ethics just say no. Brazil hurts real bad. They aren't friendly people. |

No. Korea is far more exciting than Brasil.
But really, what a dumb question. |

Comparing Seoul to Rio is like comparing the Han to the Amazon. Brazil, no contest. |

Rio had more deaths by violence last year than Baghdad.
For all of Korea's obnoxious ailments, it is a very comfortable place to be. Virtually no crime to speak of, fairly well dispersed income and all the benefits that come from that. |

of course brazil is more exciting -- haven't you seen 'city of god'?
nothing more exciting than seeing a crying 6 year old kid getting shot in the foot and then seeing his 10 year old friend get shot to death by another 10 year old, while a group of teens are laughing. |

Spent a lot of time in both countries. Lived in Seoul and Suwon for four months and been to Brazil four times, where my longest stay was one month. Mostly around Sao Paulo, but I traveled a little around there.
Brazil was my favorite country I ever visited, and I've traveled a lot. It's simply an amazing place and the potential that country has is phenomenal. If they got their act together, they'd be one of the richest countries in the world. It's such a shame to see a country like that waste all that potential.
Compared to Korea, sure, Brazil is a lot more exciting in all respects, which can be good and bad.
Here's my comparison of the two:
Brazil
Good
*Many women are gorgeous and generally they're more open
*Easier to date girls there
*Brazilians are very accepting of foreigners and don't have that much anti-foreigner sentiment.
*Great weather
*Beautiful beaches
*Friendly people
*Great food
*Cheap place to travel
*Guys don't care if you date their women; in fact, they encourage it!
*Full of energy
*Big family concept is really big there and I really like that. Kinda reminds me of Greece in the old days
*If you make an effort to speak Portuguese, they'll really love you for it
*SABRINA SATO!!
Bad
*VERY dangerous. I cannot stress this enough. Brazil is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. All big cities -- except a few in the South like Curitiba, Blumenau and Joinville -- are VERY dangerous. Watch City of God. It's very accurate on life in the slums there and this can even extend outside the favelas
*Can't trust a lot of people there as far as you can throw them. They'll scam and rip you off, even if they call you "my brother". Living there is about survival and they have no shame in ripping you off
*Absolutely cannot make a living there. In the States, networking is what makes you rich. In Brazil, networking is what makes you survive. Very few jobs and they don't pay much at all.
*Women don't take relationships too seriously
*Lots of STDs there
*Brazilians have a big tendency to lie and say things they don't really mean
*Women and others in general, might have ulterior motives. Very common to see Brasiliera's marry gringos just to get the hell out of there
*Fantasy land. A lot of gringos go and are really blinded by the three b's -- babes, beach and beer. Life in Brazil is a lot more and worse than that and it's easy for a foreigner, whose currency goes really far there, to develop false illusions about the place.
*Incredible poverty that one must see to believe
*Possibly the worst income gap in the world
*Brazilians are very disorganized and always late. I never met one who kept their appointment on time. It gets annoying
*Expat scene sucks. A lot of the expats there are losers and bums
*Electronics are outrageously expensive there
*Expensive to travel from there and kind of isolated
*High taxes
*Poor healthcare system
*Nothing seems to work there and absolutely nothing gets done
*Awful corruption that gets worse and worse each year
*Sao Paulo (as much as I miss it) is just an ugly city and Rio is far too dangerous
*Internet is expensive
*I don't like the fact that a lot of people employ maids. I think it's a form of slavery
Korea
Good
*I think the women are really beautiful
*I like the food
*VERY safe
*People are more polite
*More honest. Brazilians will lie in your face and call you "my brother" even if they hate your guts. In Korea, at least you know they can't stand you
*I don't think I was ever scammed there, but I think scams are less relevant compared to Brazil
*Great public transportation system
*Lower taxes
*More orderly
*Faster internet
*You CAN make a good income there and save a good chunk of it
*Good quality of life
*Cheap electronics
*Cheap to travel from there and lots of interesting places nearby to travel to
*You show an interest in Korean culture and language, and they'll be very helpful. I think much more than Brazilians
*Low taxes
*Decent healthcare system
*Never dated a Korean woman before, but I hear they're good for LTRs. I know people who have married both Brazilians and Koreans. The ones who married Koreans have better marriages, without question.
*Things actually get done here and corruption is not as bad as Brazil
*Drinking culture is laid-back
*Maybe others have different experience, but never had a Korean screw me over or stab me in the back. Brazil was a different story
*Korean households are very clean
Bad
*Possibly the most racist society on Earth
*Crowded
*Polluted
*Bad beaches
*Language is hard to learn
*Hard to date the women
*Hard to make true friends
*You stick out and feel like an outsider
*The stares and gawking
*Food might not be for everyone.
*Boring tv
*Hate the dramas
*North Korea is always a concern
*Korean people are ignorant about foreigners
So, in short, Brazil is a better place to visit (as long as you take precautions), but Korea is much better to live.
Actually, the Southern Brazilian cities are really nice. Florianopolis, Curitiba, Blumenau, and Joinville are very nice and fairly safe. They have a good quality of life too, comparable to some Western European countries. Curitiba, especially. That's probably the best city in South America. Porto Alegre is kind of dangerous and has quite a few favelas. But it's hard to find jobs in those places, which is why everyone moves to Sao Paulo or Rio. |

Actually I started the thread as a joke because its so obvious Brazil is 100X more vibrant and culturally rich/diverse than korea, and the reputation of the women stands for itself.
However, to get over the "grass is greener" fallacy, one needs only to read the brazil forum:
English Teacher Killed in Rio
Quote: |
Joe was in a bar in Lapa on Thursday night, May 24th, celebrating his 30th birthday. He stepped in to try to break up a fight, and ended up getting shot. Joe was apparently trying to defend a homeless kid who was being abused by a cop. Joe was shot once in the leg and once in the stomach, the ambulance took 20 minutes to arrive, and he died at the hospital. |

Brazillian women

"I was with a Brazilian girl for two years. Generally, the relationship was good, but she was immature and she didn't know what she wanted in the end. Looking back, I feel I was a little deceived and used by her because she took advantage of me for many things, without giving much in return.
The girls go from one guy to the next and the guys from one girl to the next. .. you can't trust a word they say." |

Work situation.

I landed in Forteleza and did my best to find a job, but it was soooooo difficult. I ...almost went broke. I found work just by knocking on doors, but it was difficult and frustrating to get my foot in the door. |

So in other words, you will overall have a fun time, but its not a place you should stay very long if you want to keep life and soul together.
Talking of the "grass is greener fallacy", isn't it amazing how over on the Taiwan and japan forums people who were in Korea before aoften wish they were back here?? |

I've spent about eight months there and loved it.
I dream about moving there someday, but the real problem is making money. If you wanted to make a life in Brasil, you'd have to show up with some huge savings, and probably live in the south. |

I wrote that!
About the Taiwan and Japan forums, I don't see as much moaning there as I do on the Korean forums. Are people generally happier living there? |

Yes. I've been on the China and Japanese forums and don't hear as much complaint as I have heard on this forum in the last 5 years. |
