Does anyone know how to go about buying a grey market car in Korea. I am looking to buy a car. I would buy a new car if I can take it back to the US.

I asked several dealers around here and they all told me that I cannot take a car made for Korea to the US because it doesn't meet the safety/emission standards etc. And they could not sell me a car made to export to the US.

I remember reading about buying a Genesis on the grey market was cheaper, but how to I find the grey market dealers?

Thanks

A friend bought a grey market car and saved a bundle. He bought it in the US and shipped it back to Korea. He didn't have to pay import tax because it was made in Korea. Be careful with that, though, because many Korean cars aren't built in Korea any more.

I remember reading a while back that there are grey market dealers. A regular auto dealer won't be able to do it. You'll have to search for that in Korean, though. It might be worth a trip to Guam, it'll be hard figuring out the shipping and paperwork, but the trip would probably cost the same as the dealer's commission.

Good luck.

Oh, and I drove my friends car once on the highway. Multiple times during the 3 hours or so that I was behind the wheel, I looked down, saw that I was only going 65, remembered that the speed limit was 100, stepped on the gas, went flying by the other cars, then realized that the speedometer was in MPH, but the speed limit signs were in KPH. Simple, and stupid, I know, but it does take some getting used to.
