My wife and I are thinking of buying a car in the next few months, but I would like to read up on which cars are the best/worst. Does anyone know of a reliable place to read car reviews on-line? It is possible that some of these Korean cars aren't made for export, so it might be hard to get reviews in English.
I guess if anyone knows anything about the "Kia Pride" or the "Hyundai Verna" you can give me your opinion. Or if you have some knowledge of cars and can give me some advice on good mid-sized cars here, I would appreciate it. |

I have an new Hyundai Avante.
It's a great car.
It's great on gas, comes with lots of features.
It's the perfect size too... not too small, but not so big that parking (parking spots here tend to be small) or driving down narrow alley ways will be a major concern.
The Avante is also a very popular car, meaning re-sale value should be better. |

| This is like THE only Korean car that I think is esthetically pleasing. I wonder how good it is. |

I love the i30, but they are still relatively expensive even for a one or two year old model. |

I think those Top Gear guys are funny, but they are a bit snobbish when it comes to their car reviews. |

You've been here too long mate. They are trashing Korean cars simply because they are total and utter cheap dogshit. |

I like the Mornings, but my wife says they are too small. They are really popular here too, and they seem to hold their value well. I've been looking at used ones, and they are still pretty pricey considering their size.
The Forte is a nice looking car, but a just a quick look at Encar.co.kr shows they are pretty new, and therefore still pretty expensive. |

I have a 2001 Avante XD I bought new. So far, knock on wood, it has been an excellent car. To date I have had no problems with it at all.
I have also found most car service centers to be reliable and honest. I'm a bit of a shade tree mechanic so I know whats up with car repairs. Most mechanics I've dealt with here know their stuff when it comes to basic repairs.
My wife and I are expecting twins so we are looking for a slightly bigger car. We are going to keep the Avante and possible buy a Tuscon or Santa-fe. I do like the Kia Prides though as we are considering me driving a smaller car and wife driving the Avante.
If you buying a new car. The experience is totally different from what I experienced in the States. You order your car from a catalog and it is delivered at a later time (1-3 months). Also, most car companies offer "set menus". Meaning to get one option you may have to buy another option you don't really want. For our Avante, to get a sunroof, we had to buy a CD player and Leather seats (neither of which I wanted).
Nor is their much dickering over price. The only real negotiating room we had was trading in our old car. But the offer from Hyundai for our old car was so good we had to take it (W1,500,000 for a 5 year old Tico). |

You could always look into importing a car from America. You might be able to save some money on importing an Accent or Rondo from there. I know the Genesis is WAYY cheaper back home than here. |

| I'd advise you to look at an SM3, Samsung. It's not much to look at but the sm3 is a good car. My wife and I bought one this spring. In the past 3 years it has been either 2 or 3 ranked on the least things gone wrong list. The Sm5 was above it for each year. It is also the safest car in its class in Korea. Or at least the safest Korean made car in its class. Another good thing about the SM3 is that is designed by Nissan. You are getting a Japanese car made in Korea for the price of a Korean made car. Which is why I think its reliability is so high. It's my guess that nissan allows samsung to produce its older models so all of the kinks have been worked out by the time they get to Korea. |

I've had a Kia Carens for just over a year now.
It's all good. LPG is cheaper than normal gas. You can save 30-40% on fuel costs.
The car is spacious and reliable. The GLX version has every gizmo you can think of.
All for 18mill. Bargain. |
