I'll be teaching for EPIK in Busan starting in March. I'm not sure how to interpret the overtime clause in the contract. Can someone explain it?
Article 8 (Work Hours)
...
3) Actual class instruction hours of Employee shall not exceed twenty-two (22) hours per week. If, however, Employee's actual weekly class instruction hours exceed twenty-two (22) hours due to supplementary class instruction, Employee shall be entitled to a supplementary class instruction pay (20,000won/hour).
4) Employer may require Employee to work overtime in addition to normal Work Days and Work Hours. In this case, overtime pay will be provided(6,000won/hour).
Are there possible times when I would be making 6,000 won an hour? |

you'll get 20,000 won for teaching over your contracted 22 hours a week, while you'll only get 6,000 won for working (meetings, computer work, etc) outside your regular working hours (ex. 9-5)
i've never heard of anyone getting the 6,000 won before, even if they were working beyond their regular hours. i wouldn't worry about it |

| I have a similar post a few below here, but my question fits into this thread. The "actual teaching hours" , does that mean they can take all the minutes I'm in class with students, ie. three 40 minute classes is two or three of my 22 contractual hours????? This is relevant to my situation teaching at the moment. Anyone know?? Also, I will e-mail the above e-mail address and see what they have to say. Thanks. |

| It's best to discuss this with your regional co-ordinator at your education office. |

| It varies from school to school. However from what I understand overtime is still a pretty rare occurrence. |
