I like the location of this area, but I'm wondering about rent prices. Anybody have any info? Being so close to Mokdong I would expect not cheap.

Yeoungdeungpo GuCheon is nice. It can be rather expensive. You really need to investigate on your own. As in any area of Seoul, you can find pretty good housing if you look long enough. I think you should walk around and go into every real estate agent office in the area. You never know what you might find.

Not a bad idea. I remember you said you're near Sangsu. How is that area to live in? My school is near Jeungsan on the 6, so Sangsu/Hapjeong would be perfect. Could I find a place with 5k down and 500/mo (about what SMOE will front for me)?

Rent can be cheap in youngdoungpo. I live in mullae-5ga, right on the edge of Guro-gu in a decent officetel that is about as cheap as you can expect in Seoul.

yeongdeungpo-gu is probably one of the cheapest 'gu' you can find in seoul (except yeouido, which is expensive). its not a particularly nice area, but i lived there for a year and it was fine.

i lived somewhere between yeongdeungpo station and yeongdeungpo-gucheong station, along a busy road, in an officetel (22-pyong). i paid 5mil in key money and 500,000 per month in rent.

also.. there are plenty of letting offices around (부동산) and they often list their prices in the window. take a korean friend (preferably old-ish, smart looking and male) with you and negotiate. they originally wanted 10mil in key money from me but i got them down to 5mil with no change in the rent.

I'd imagine by now it'd be even cheaper. Rents still around 500K?

I'd imagine not. I just want to be close to the 2 and the 5. Seems hella convenient.

In Guro (only a couple of stops away) you can't get a very nice place for 5k key money and 500/month, so I would expect that to be the case in Yeoungdeungpo-Gu-cheon as well.

Wait you CAN or you CAN NOT? I'm not sure if this be a typo or no.

^

Sorry I was a bit out of it when I posted that. Embarassed

We looked for several weeks in Guro, Dangsan, and Yeougdeungpo-Gu-Cheon and found very few apartments that were up to snuff for what we had (10 mill key money and max of 600k rent/month).

In the end we got lucky and found a nice new officetel in Guro, but it took a lot of legwork. I can't imagine how hard it would be with only 5 mill key money. But then again, if all you want is a one room you shouldn't have too much trouble. Maybe try Craigslist?

Hey man

first of all, I gotta let you know that I'm a Korean then I'm replying this to you without any intention of making $ or so.

I guess you are looking to be settled in Yeongdeongpo-gu and you asked about rent.

I think it depends on the place you want. As you may know there is key deposit required here in Korea to have your room and it is vary depend on a place you want to move in.

In my short storming draft(I'm not sure this is correct Eng), as close as you want to located at Mok-dong, the rent for the similar place might go up. Because Yeongdeongpo is not expensive place to live but Mok-dong.

You are welcome to PM me if you need some detailed information about finding a place in Mokdong. I may be able to call and talk to an real estate agent to look for the place you want instead of you.

Of course, I want nothing. I just want to help you guys out, who need help, because I had no help at all for 7 years while I'd been in Eng and the US during my study. I'm kinda drunken now and its time for me to go to bed... lol

Hope you find delightful and cozy place working for you
