Hey,

I have been offered a job that pays on the 15th of the following month. That seems kinda of slow. It is not that big of a place, so I don't see why it takes so long to pay. Something seems fishy. I have a friend at CDI, who gets paid on the 10th and one at YBM who gets paid on the 7th.

What day is reasonable? I would like to know what day the bigger places pay, so I can confront these people with some data, rather than assumptions.

If there are places paying on the 15th, then I might not question it.

Thanks.

Anything over 5th is unreasonable.

I get paid on 25th, but it's 5/6 days before completing my full month of work.

Why is it unreasonable?

As long as payday is the same day of each month (and you were paid pro rata for you first month or part ther of) it really doesnt matter when you get paid. Different places will pay on different days. GEPIK pays on 25th. But, when I wa in a small hagwon I got paid on 12th and 26th (half month each pay) because I started on the 12th and they offered splitting the pay.

I get paid on the last day of the pay period for that pay period. There is absolutely no excuse for pay to be any later than that.

Doesn't really matter when you get paid, as long it's on time and the right amount.

There's a reason for this and it's a reason you don't want to have to live with. Moving on....

Totally disagree. Why should someone have to wait six weeks to get paid. It's a completely one-sided arrangement.

Anything after the last working day of the month is unreasonable as far as I'm concerned.

You may call it runner's insurance. If the school has runner's insurance, it's because they've had runners in the past. If they've had runners in the past, I wouldn't wanna work for them anyway.

I think jvalmer meant that it doesn't matter what day you get paid as long as it was for the 30 day period ending that day (or earlier in the case of public schools.)

For example:

Many public school teachers get paid on the 25th for working from the 1st to the 30th.

In a hagwon, if you were to get paid on the 12th you would want it for the 30 days ending on the 12th (or possibly the 11th), but not earlier. You would not want to be paid on the 12th for the previous month ending on the 30th. In that case you must work another 12 days you aren't paid for if you want to take off. As someone else said: Runner's Insurance.

BTW, Korean law doesn't allow this but hagwons still try to put it in the contract.

I get paid on the 15th. It is for the month directly preceding which ends on the 14th. So, if September 1 was my start date, I would get half of the salary on September 15.

Our school pays the same date from the date we started. They do hold back 7 days, so what does that mean?

So if you start on the 19th, you get paid a week AFTER the 19th on the following month....

That's how we do it here anyways, I don't really care as long as I get paid on time every month.

If your pay period starts on the 15th of every month than it's fine. Simply insist that you get paid on the first 15th that comes your way once you start working. If not, don't take the job.

The public schools in Busan pay on the 24th for the pay period of the 25th of the previous month through the 24th of the current month. The pay for that pay period is deposited into the teacher's bank account on the 24th or the last bank workday prior to the 24th.

To make things clear.

The pay I get on January 15 will be for December 1 to 31.

For those of you who stated that you get paid December 25 for December 1 to 31. Where do you work?
