My co-teacher will probably change in March.
She is sitting next to me and I cannot stand her. Why?
It's the awful smile she has on her face usually when she is showing me disrespect to her Korean colleagues.
Despite the fact I taught alone when she recently took time off to visit her sick brother, I fully realize she has no respect for me, hence her what-she-would-think-are-subtle-antics with her fellow Koreans.
I've now decided as it's near the end for her I am going to be more unhelpful.
I don't exchange any social conversation with her anymore, because she is a patronizing scumbag. Even though she cannot read, write or speak English competently.
I give her very obvious disgusted indirect looks nowadays. As if to say she is smelly. It seems to upset her, which I quite like.
This idea came into my head the other day and I plan to say this just before she leaves (only when it's clear she will definitely leave).
KT: Well thank you for your help over the last year. I really would like to thank you for everything (as she is saying it she sticks 2 fingers up to my face and excuses herself, giving the excuse she was counting up to 2).
Me: No problem, thank you for your kindness and world class manners. You really are a very nice, genuine, sincere person (thinking you nasty freak, I'm glad you're finally off, in more ways than one )
KT: Thanks.
NT: One last thing, if you'd like to continue to improve your English, you're welcome to join my Grade 3 special class in the afternoons. I really think it would help somebody of your level (cue my own fake awful smile/grimace, and then walk off looking really triumphant for no good reason). |

One look at your post history tells us your co-teacher is probably looking forward to March as well. Sorry, but you really do complain about your situation a lot and don't seem to do anything positive to make it improve. Bottom line - you come off as immature. Again, sorry, just calling them as I see them. |

You think that's an insult?!! I am always immature.
That still doesn't account for the co-teacher's numerous shortcomings. It also doesn't account for her level of maturity either.
If somebody starts something, I have to finish it. |

If that ultra-camp guy from Will and Grace came to teach in Korea he would post like this. |

LOL! Watch she thinks that's a real invitation and really comes! Or worse, she will hold you to the offer in helping her with her English! |

I'll only help her in my special class. If she was stupid enough to attend, I would ask her to make sentences, highlight and emphasize the major errors to the rest of the class and laugh at her there and then.
That would be fun.
She is studying a TESOL course but she is awful at speaking English. She makes regular mistakes, and has the audacity to look at me as though she is an expert. I feel her fake smile and nasty behaviour is a pathetic attempt to hide her inadequacy as an English speaker.
We both know she is awful and that's why she cannot stand me. |

your co-teaher has the good fortune of being able to go home after school
and leave you behind without a further thought
alas...you on the other hand, have the misfortune of being stuck with yourself and all the attenant pettiness 24/7
give it rest |

Hate to feed the troll, but...
Do you know 2 languages. I am impressed with even the fact that so many people can attempt at least some English in Korea. And it is so much better here compared to 10 years ago. The kids are very advanced in my opinion. In no way do the kids speak in French in Canada as well as the majority of Koreans speak in English. Say what you will about the bad English here, but they are further ahead than some countries.
Seems to me your co-teacher has some right to look down on you. She can speak a second language, she has a good job in her own country with benefits rising each year, and I doubt she's allergic to work like you are.
As they say in Tekken...ROUND ONE - YOU LOSE! |

Countrygirl, what is the level of French for French Teachers in Canada? Can the average public school French Teacher hold a conversation for more than 30seconds without getting the 'deer in the headlights' look or making a handful of glaring errors.
Most of us don't know 2 or more languages (Along with many South Africans, I'd be an exception as I have a workable knowledge of Afrikaans) however, we are not teaching a language that we can barely communicate in. |

I'm not saying that how they teach English here is being done smoothly or even well. But given how far away linguistically English is from Korean, I think the kids are doing as well as can be expected. French is closer to English, and the teachers are better trained in Canada than the Korean teachers, but I bet the Korean students would be more comfortable talking with a Native English speaker than Canadian students speaking to a Native French speaker. Naturally, I'm speaking about the places in Canada that aren't close to many Native French speakers.
I was taught that I was too stupid to learn languages...thank you French teachers...so I admire anyone who can communicate even a little in another language. The best co-teacher that I have has barely passable English. But she teaches the students the target language and makes them practice it with English games and activities until they get it. And I never make her feel stupid so she comes to me if she has any questions about English. All of my co-teachers have improved in their English ability since they have to talk with me in English all of the time.
In all my years of learning French we never did role plays, we never played language games, we never even watched French movies. It was all lectures and drills. So my French teachers might have had better French but that didn't help me. And, in reality, I only had one French teacher that was a native French teacher. I'm sure the other French teachers would have made many mistakes and been afraid to converse with a real French speaker, but I'll never know. |
