There has been a lot of confusion about whether American teachers are tax-exempt for their first two years of work in Korea; indeed, they are, if they are working for a university. This is because of a tax treaty the two countries signed, and a copy of that treaty is available at:

There are treaties for other countries as well, so Brits, Aussies, Kiwis, Canucks, etc. might find this useful.
