Hey, sorry if this a a repeat but I can't find any clear answer anywhere.
I have a notarized, Oregon state criminal records check - that I was fingerprinted for at Yongsan. Everything looks good.
Can I get an Apostille at the US embassy? Or will they give me an affidavit, that WILL (accepted by Korean immigration) work?
OR do I need to send it back to the state of Oregon for the apostille?
Thanks for bearing with me - |

The affidavit will be what they will give to you, and it will work for immigration purposes. |

You should probably also read the "sticky" thread on authenticating background checks while in Korea.
My understanding is that you can do an affidavit at the U.S. Embassy, swearing that the criminal check is authentic and true (or some such wording).
When they attach the affidavit with their official seal to your criminal record check it looks official enough for Immigration (as long as it's not an "online" CRC).
I'm not sure what the fee is now in won, but it was about $30. when I did one.
The Embassy definitely will not "apostille" anything. |

Alternatively, you could just read the immigration regulations yourself. It states:

※ In case applicant stay in Korea and is sent Criminal Background Check by mail, Or one's entry to Korea is imminent, the document notarized by one's embassy in Korea may be exceptionally acceptable. |

Thanks both of you - I searched before I started the thread and had a heck of a time of figuring out what would work - |
