So I renewed at my university for 1 year. After giving the forms the man at immigration takes my wife's ARC card and rights her 1 year extension on the back. He gives back her passport without modifications.
He takes my medical and crc documents (I didn't need to do them as I was before the deadline last time) and takes my passport and E2.
I get a new E2 ARC card back with the right dates, etc. My passport is unstamped and not modified at all.
Is that right? If you renew they don't do anything to your passport? Seemed a bit strange they just wrote on the back of my wife's F3 ARC card too and didn't touch her passport other than looking at it.

What the hell do you mean by an "E2 card"? |

| I think he means an ARC. I think it's the ARC immigration look at, I think they have done the right thing, even though it appears to be wrong. |

Don't worry about it. When extending a contract, what counts is what is on your ARC. I have done this 6 times, and nothing is placed in my passport. They added something to the back of your ARC, a new date that your visa expires. They have the information on their computer system.
Just make sure that you get re-entry visas if you plan on going on vacation. |

If you extend your status of sojourn you only get a notation on the back of your ARC and the change noted in the computer system (and your file).
Do NOT leave the country without getting a re-entry permit (your previous re-entry privileges, if any, did/do NOT carry over into the extended period).
The only notation that would need to be made into your passport would be a re-entry permit if you had applied for one.
It is normal.
