So I'm about done with SMOE and looking for a new job. I interviewed yesterday and they said if I get a Letter or Release from my current employer, to coincide with the very last day of employment, I can just switch visas, rather than do all that crap again. I'm goign home for three weeks in March and they're cool with that but they want to avoid going thru the whole song and dance, as do I.
Before I go thru the Master of the Universe Jon P. I'd like to get some info here.
1. I've heard that SMOE doesn't do Letters of Release
2. Even if they do, will I lose out on my severance? What about pension? |

From what I understand, you'd have to get your visa changed before you left the country.
I tried to work this crap out when I left SMOE and before my 3 week vacation, but in the end I had to get a new visa and do all the BS.
Hopefully you will get a different answer or result. SMOE is so understaffed and doesn't respond well to individual problems anymore. I doubt they'd be willing to give you an LOR early. You can get one for your last contract day easily, but earlier is a different story.
I don't know if you got one how it would affect your severance and pension.
And Jon Park is not the head of that office. |

| I called him about the very same issue last week, and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Turns out I won't need it, so I'm not sure if they would have followed through, but that's what he said. |

| The problem is you may now have to go through Jon Park to get to the higher ups. They seem to be flitering their communications through admin assts. more than they did in the past. |
