And if legitimate, this sounds disturbing.

wow, I know its practically too late to put this comment in, I can only say I was busy, and couldnt find the password for days until I finally searched the spam folder.

Anyhow, Id like to share a few facts.

- Ive known the accused person in question for over 5 years
- I would trust him with ALL of my children, behind closed doors, NO QUESTION
- Ive been briefed on the incident, which appears to be a fabrication, perhaps started by the children and then reinforced by the parents, railroaded by the police, and stampeded into the press (one of the parents used to be a reporter). Unfortunately, I cant go into further details until the case finishes either in, or out of, court.

-the long and the short of it is this, IMHO. The dudes main mistakes were:

1. teaching the children of poor families who saw an opportunity in a hard economy.
2. not being more pro-active, believing his innocence was enough to quell the false rumors. (he has the backing of his colleagues, BTW, but they, too are foreigners)
3. when he finally hired his own legal counsel (he allowed the school to handle this for months and they botched it completely, apparently because they had had a REAL molester case before this), he hired a Korean lawyer, not that theres anything wrong with this, but the lawyer in question decided to defend him while not really believing his story (and of course not telling him this). make no mistake - THIS IS WORSE THAN NO LAWYER AT ALL !

So yes, as many of you suspected, this IS a witchhunt of an innocent person, who will undoubtedly hate Korea for some time, while still loving his Korean wife dearly.but for now, his life is utterly wrecked.

I worked with a guy in my first year in Guri at a "Wonderful place" that got accused of child molestation and I am 99.9999% sure that he didn't do it.

Really nice guy but as naive as can be. Sad

I don't know if this Canadian is innocent or guilty but it is entirely plausible that he is being railroaded. South Korea's justice system is an f'ing joke.

Nobody ever wants to believe someone they were close to is a pedo.

Well, that's true. The weird thing was that they let him continue to work at the school after that. That and the parents met him and shook his hand as an apology was given.

I don't know about you but if I had a little girl and I met the teacher that was accused of molesting my child, I'd be madder than hell.

Things didn't add up in that case at all. Mind you, the school was a madhouse to begin with. Sad

The legal and educational systems here are such a mess that you never know what to believe. I've known enough people who were falsely accused of things at school (though not molestation) that I automatically have to doubt such allegations. But of course, at least a few of them are probably true. The thorough deceit that clouds every aspect of private education in this country casts doubt on every case.
