I have applied to many recruiters and they all seem to stress that I start by March/April. I was wondering if they are trying to get their commission quicker or is there a reason? I see jobs posted all year round that's why I ask.

Thanks!

Miso

The public school semester starts in March/April.

Even for hagwon work, why wouldn't they be requesting that you start then? The jobs they have to offer right now all start in March or April, since that's when the schools know they'll have jobs available.

All of the recruiters are probably gunning to fill positions for the March 2009 term. After that they will ginning for the September 2009 term. If you want to start after March they might not be so quick to find a position for you. They do make money from the schools when they fill positions.

There are also spots available year round. If you don't want to be flexible with the time you want to start then be persistent. It might be harder for them to find something for your right away.

You should do some serious homework on contracts. There is a sticky for contracts. People post their contracts and have more experienced people review them. Dedicate some time to reading some of the more recent contracts to see what the recent standards are, and especially look for the types of clauses that you should avoid. If you have some contracts then post them.

Also, you should do some poking around on Dave's or elsewhere to find out about the reputations of the recruiters you are using. A bad position will screw you out of money and quality of life. If you are not in a terrible hurry to leave the country then take your time and do some research.
