Maybe it's just on Dave's, but why do Canadians seem to outnumber all the other expats in Korea? |

Because they've perfected the language and Koreans want to learn from the best? |

We call it, "having a job", and it's absolutely shameful how we're willing to travel around the world and experience new things while we do it, isn't it? |

It's more than just an appearance. It is a fact. Canadians make up the largest group of ESLers. |

I think its because Canadians can deal with the cold weather and the money is pretty good for them. |

I am an American and I am now in the US.
Americans are very insular and tend not to go far from their friends and family.
The only way they know about Korea would be from friends/ family who have served in the US army in Korea or by watching reruns of M*A*S*H* [honestly~~!]
I am the only person among my friend and family to go and live outside the country to work, EVER!
And when I tell people I used to work overseas, the first thing they ask is; "Why did you come back here?"
I am almost ashamed to answer |

American here. I don't know where you live, but from where I am from (California), many people would be willing to travel and work overseas. Of course it is nice to stay close to ones family and friends, but in my experiences that does not hinder the possibility to travel or work abroad. I think to generalize all Americans as not wanting or being willing to work abroad is not accurate. As far as coming home to America, I will do it with great happiness and also depart for my next contract with great happiness, knowing that I get to travel and eventually come home to America. Go Lakers. |

It might have something to do with cost-of-living around here or unemployment. I sure meet a lot of Maritimers, and the economy has been particularly slow in those parts.
It's difficult just to make ends meet-- I have a friend here who is working for 13 bucks an hours (well above minimum wage) and struggles just to afford a room (shared kitchen/bathroom) while her father pays for her car and credit card. It's a bit ridiculous. |
