I am wondering about the process on getting a E2 visa in the USA to teach English in Korea and the criminal record/background check thing that has to be done. Does your record have to be completely clean? What are the guidelines on this? |

If you have a record with a certain department (say, the city you live in) then just get a criminal background check from the next city over or the county office. All it says is "John Doe does not have any criminal records with this department. Signed, Sherrif Justice." Any records check wether local, state, or national is acceptable to get the visa. |

You mean you can go to anywhere USA and get a criminal record check and they accept it? That sounds ridiculous. Doesn't that mean you could be wanted in Los Angeles for serious offenses and just go to a nearby tosn and get a check? |

I have on my criminal record a obstruction of a peace officer but it was put as a defered sentence, so there is no conviction and that is all I have. I have wonderful references from teachers here in the states. Will I be able to pull it through and get the E2 visa? |

If the sentence was deferred and there was no conviction then you're criminal record check will come back clean, no worries. |

Not sure if felonies are carried by other departments, but misdemeanors do not. As of right now, the requirement says recent criminal background check. Doesn't say where it has to be from. |
