Lee Urges People to Abide by Law
By Kim Sue-young
Staff Reporter
President Lee Myung-bak Friday said maintaining keeping law and order despite temporary inconvenience and pain in was absolutely necessary for South Korea to become an advanced country.
He made the remarks during a luncheon meeting with about 100 members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), an organization of senior scientists and scholars.
``Even though life is tough, we cannot neglect this issue,'' the President said. ``We will make an effort to protect ethics and keep law and order which are collapsing in our society.''
There will be no stepping back despite several social conflicts, he added.
He also stressed that the nation should elevate every walk of life to a higher level to become a developed country.
``When every sector as well as the economy reaches a higher standard, Korea will be a country that can gain respect in the international community,'' he said. |
I told my friends at the chop shop about his speech and they laughed and laughed till they dropped their tools.
Isn't this guy called "the bulldozer" or something like that? Seems he should practice what he preaches. This Lee fellow, who does he think he is? The president? He acts like he runs this country! :X
I put in bold the words "temporary inconvenience and pain" because I'm curious to know as to what he's exactly referring to.
Is he referring to the serial killers? You know, not killing people is so inconvenient Especially for hagwon teachers. You know, instead of filing grievances with the Labor Board, it would be so much easier to stroll into the building with an AK-47, kill everybody and the TV, then take the money, which is how it's done in an advanced country.
Or is he referring to the protesters? Well they died, so following the law would have prevented their pain to begin with.
The audience was composed of scientists. Maybe he was referring to plagiarism and fraud charges that they get accused of every now and then.
If he's referring to the recent rise in crime, then it's an attempt to slow the rise before it gets out of hand. You know, there might be a *gasp* stolen bag! Or *gasp* a barroom brawl! We can't have that here!
Y'know, it might be more important to tell law enforcement to follow the law/not take bribes from pimps(and then let said pimps write their names and bribe amounts in a black book), and judges to have a drop of common sense (re: Taean oil spill trial, incest rape case, lonestar bank-gate), rather than tell people to just follow the law. |
