I am so frustrated! I had a good offer from a school, and turned it down because I got what i thought was a better offer from another school. They liked me, offered me the job, and then the recruiter emails me and says they now want to change the job to 6 days a week for 3.0 mil

I emailed the recruiter back and said i will not work 6 days a week...im not sure if its a deal breaker, but i would still work for them if it was mon-fri only....do u think they will still offer me the job at the original hours?? Other wise i am back to square one in finding a job....

The ball is definitely in your court. If you're at all qualified, which am sure you are, you will get hired. I ended up getting three offers. Some were better than others. I finished up the process (though not there yet), accepting the best deal. No weekends or split shifts, and I do teach younger children. Having raised two daughters, teens in my opinion are a nightmare -- especially girls. But then that's just me. I wanted to work in a coastal area, but ended up settling for a higher paying job on the outskirts of Seoul. School also negotiated with me for better digs, loft bedroom and fully outfitted kitchen. As I've said in a previous post, "We'll see." But you definitely have the option of getting what you want within reason.

Haha, settling for close to Seoul.

They might say there is no problem with you only working 5 days a week, but keep looking for someone else who will take it. You should keep looking too.

Why would anyone want a hogwan job. I just finished 32 days of holidays at my public school and also found out that we get the 19th until the second off.

Nah... my school has been super nice to me, and I'm 10 months in to it. I
've never been jerked around. I'm paid on time. I only actually work about 14 hours a week (which sometimes drives me nuts because I've gotta sit here). The hakwon treated me like crap when I got near the end of my contract, and the government job was worse.

It comes down to pay and co-teacher relationships. At a hagwon, they will try to get you to teach your class at the same time your co-teacher teaches another class. At a public school, you work with more students but you can actually co-teach (note: I stated "can", not "do").

I have never had to question the public school about pay or when I will get paid. Hagwons, even the nice ones try to negotiate different payment arrangements. It's not so much they won't pay you, but you are always uneasy come pay day. You don't know what to expect, but you do with a public school.

I have been paid late at a public school, several times.
