I tried to install an English OS on my new netbook. Now the thing boots up but will not recognize any USB devices so I cannot load the appropriate drivers. And, to reinstall the old OS I can only use a USB DVD drive... because it's a netbook... but to use a USB device I need the appropriate drivers from the install disc... etc.
JOY!

| Can you connect to the internet? If so, you can download the drivers from the manufacturer's site. |

| Welcome to driver hell, exactly why I chose to do database administration instead of tech support! |

Are you using an external CD Drive with a copy of the OS on a CD?
Try another USB port and make sure you press a key when it asks if you want to boot from the CD drive. |

I fiddled with it and found the driver.cab of the last install. By browsing to that I was able to get my SD Card reader and USB ports to function. Now I just need to get my FN+~ keys working as the right hand side of the keyboard types only numerals... as per the FN key being always on.
I am trying MicroXP as they would have given me a hacked XP anyway. At least now the thing isn't a paperweight.
Thank god I walked away from an angry ape moment last night though. I was ready to chuck the thing out the window. Hell, it's still probably under warranty still... I could probably take it and claim they gave me a bad copy of XP to begin with.

| Most laptops will have a complete drivers package downloadable from the maunfacturers website. Best just to install the whole package so everything will work as it should. |

yes...thae manufacturers site will be the one. Go to a pc bang with a flash drive.
Next time get all your drivers before starting a reinstall of the OS. You can also back up drivers with apps like http://www.driver-soft.com/

I don't think it's corrupted, I think you just need the usb drivers and mobo drivers. You need to connect to the internet, go to the manufacturer website (the laptop manufacturer) and install your motherboard drivers (the usb driver may be included in the motherboard driver, or a seperate driver. also check the bios to see if usb has been disabled; if it has then enable it. they should have given you a disk with the motherboard drivers that you need. |
