Sexual harassment disgraces KCTU
Four leading members of the militant umbrella union Korean Confederation of Trade Unions offered to step down yesterday, taking responsibility for the sexual harassment attempt committed by an executive union member.
Vice representatives of the group -- Kim Eun-ju, Park Jeong-gon, Ju Bong-hee and Huh Yeong-gu -- said they have reached a conclusion "to take full responsibility" in a posting on its website.
However, many people harshly criticized the KCTU, bringing up questions on the group's morality and transparency. They also urged the four leaders to make settlements for the case before leaving their posts.
The KCTU leaders' decision followed a 10-hour long executive meeting called to discuss the incident on Thursday.
A second executive meeting was held later yesterday with the resignation of the remaining four leaders, including acting president Jin Young-ok and secretary-general Lee Yong-sik tabled on its agenda. But participants were not able to draw a conclusion due to differences in their opinions.
The labor group canceled a press conference scheduled for yesterday morning, and decided to get some officials to visit KCTU president Lee Suk-haeng, who is in jail for his role in illegal protests involving U.S. beef imports last year, to listen to his views.
The third meeting is slated for Monday.
In the meantime, the victim of the sexual harassment attempt said she will file a complaint against the alleged harasser and the KCTU through her lawyer during a press conference on Thursday.
She said the group pressured her to keep mum about the case, stating it will only weaken its stance in the current situation.
On Dec. 6, an executive member of the KCTU allegedly attempted to sexually harass a female member of the union several times and the victim made a report to the union. But it was left nearly untouched by the group for nearly a month, according to the statement released by the victim.
The accused executive was later fired after the KCTU found him to be guilty in its own investigation conducted last month.
The KCTU is one of the two major umbrella unions in the nation and it currently has 664,394 members.

Glad to see he's in jail.

He attempted to rape a woman who gave him a "safe house" from the police?
Gotta wonder what else they're covering up. Scumbags. |

Looks good on them. The real douche-bags are in the Korea Teacher's Union though,IMHO. That pro-commie, anti-Western coven has produced the hateful little shits that many "foreign" teachers are dealing with now/will be dealing with shortly in the various educational levels, up to and including university. A former student of mine who worked for the KIS said they had proof that the North Korean Intelligence Service had funneled money to these individuals, but the former administration,(read Comrade Noh), would not allow them to pursue the investigation. They are always at the ready to defend any of their "members" who diddle children, but want "unfit folliners"out of Korea. I had a protracted discussion/shouting-match with one for them once near Seoul Station and she said that she would "welcome the day when our northern brothers come south to drive out the waygoeks". I told her that the Norks would bayonet her and her pals first, because they were not trustworthy in the eyes of the Great Leader. |
