				|
 |
				| I'm told that in addition to supplying receipts for my tickets home, my school must also obtain a "certificate from immigration."
Supposedly, this certificate says that I have left the country.

Has anyone heard of this, or actually seen one?

I'm really interested in finding out what, exactly, this "certificate" says. If, for example, it simply says that I departed Korea on a certain date, I can deal with that. If, on the other hand, it provides more information than that, there will be problems.

				| I have never heard of that, but why not just show them the stamp in your passport. I never pay attention anymore but I think they either stamp it or write the date in it when you enter the country each time. | |

				| In addition, you may find that they are asking for something that they don't know about either, or are just assuming a person receives. Most of my co-teachers have never been out of Korea before and wouldn't have any idea about such things. | |

				| The Office of Education is telling our co-teachers to contact Immigration to get this "certificate" as proof that we have left the country. That's as much as I know.
Teachers who are finishing contracts and not re-signing are subject to this.

I imagine that this is to replace the "show us the stamp in your passport" rubbish. That's fine, assuming the "certificate" merely says that I departed Korea on X date, and nothing more.

				| What they are asking is a record from immigration that you have left the country. You can contact immigration for a copy of your departure record.

				| My ex-K-boss would just phone Immi and ask. They'd tell him.
 OP,

As far as I know, there is no 'Protection of Privacy' law in K-land, but if you're worried about Immi telling the POE you didn't go where they bought a ticket for, don't sweat it!... Immi doesn't have that info. They don't care where you are going; they only care about the dates you enter or exit the country. A Certificate of Departure will not contain any info. on your destination.

				| That's more or less all I needed to know, thanks everyone!
One final thought, though: I will not be handing in my ARC when I depart. My visa has been transfered (contract dates worked in my favor). Is there any reason why this would delay or cause problems with getting said certificate?

The Office of Education is aware of the transfer, so that's not the issue. I'm simply hoping that there are no issues with my co-teacher getting the cert. as soon as I depart.[/quote]
