Gangdong-gu is a fine place to live/work..
30 minutes from Itaewon (by subway)..
Gandong-gu has many shopping centers at Cheonho and is right next to Olympic park... (swimming pools, etc).
Gangdong-gu is also across the river from Walker Hill hotel..
Gangdong-gu is also next to Songpa-gu - which has Olympic park, Jamsil, lotte world etc..
The air quality and laid back lifestyle is very good in both Gangdong-gu and Songpa-gu as they both lie on the far east border of Seoul, surrounded by the mountains of Gyeongg-di (before you cross over to Hanam)... |

I currently work in GangDong-Gu; like the poster above said, it's a great place to live; central Seoul is easily accessible through public transportation, air is definitely better (although, not better than, say, Chicago) and it's a little more spaced out than central Seoul and depending on the area, you can literally walk outside of Seoul! |

+1 to what Yesterday said. I'd say that it's better than living in Bundang, and Bundang is pretty nice.
The funniest thing about Gangdong is that there's a McDonald's virtually in the middle of nowhere. That McDonalds marks the very end of urban civilization. I live beyond it. It's sad, cold, and lonely beyond that point. |

I live in Gangdong-Gu! Everything I need is really close, but I don't feel like I have to constantly fight the crowds like I would if I was in Central Seoul. You can definitely keep yourself entertained and happy in Gangdong throughout the week....and then Central Seoul is a short subway ride away!
Perks of the area are: Hyundai Dept. Store, 2 E-marts, lots of Mcdonalds, BK's, other Western joints like Outback, Pizza Hut, etc. Olympic Park is BEAUTIFUL for a picnic or rent a bike, or go for a swim. Lotte World is close, lots to do there as well. Also close to Children's Grand Park (Achasan stop on line 5) which is a fun place to hang out. They have animals, nice landscaping, fair rides, shows, and it's free!
