|
|
I usually run Ubuntu but tried Fedora the other day instead. In some ways I like it better but one thing is really pissing me off. The package manager is super slow. I suspect it has to do with the mirrors and now with the program itself. I know the ubuntu mirrors in Korea are incredibly fast, has anyone had trouble with slow mirrors in Fedora? How did you fix it?
I have already tried installing the fastest mirror package but that didn't work. |

Didn't try fedora while I was in Korea. I like it better than Ubuntu. Package speed is alright in the states, so you could be right... |

I don't like how much harder it is to get proprietary drivers in Fedora than it is in Ubuntu but I do like some of its more advanced features.
I think Ubuntu would be fine for most people. Ubuntu actually has a mirror in Korea, unlike Fedora. It appears Suse has a mirror as well. |

Suse is pretty polished. Was my second favorite last time I was testing out distros. Mandriva was my favorite. Almost as polished and video drivers were pre-installed. |

I tried opensuse as well. I download the KDE install for 4.1 and was dissapointed by how often it crashed. Perhaps if I had upgraded it to 4.2 I would have been happier. For Suse I would need to figure out how to install all the restricted drivers but I guess that wouldn't take too long. I think as long as I am in Korea I will stick with Ubuntu because thier is are two Korean mirrors.
If I can't figure out fedora I'll probably just wait until the next Ubuntu is released. |

Yeah, everyone has basically been saying to go with kde 3.5.9 + compiz rather than kde4. It's still basically in beta. I've heard that 4.2 is actually usable though. I'll be excited if it is because their version of expos supports minimized windows. Planning on giving it a try this week. Can let you know after I try it. |
