I have not been able to believe my eyes a couple of times during the last week...

First of all I was shopping in a local convenience store and saw three mandarins for 8500 won. Yesterday I was flicking channels on the TV and saw an extended advert for Mandarins from Jeju Island. They were very proudly advertizing two boxes, each containing between seven and nine mandarins, for the eye-watering sum of 30,000 won give or take a few hundred won. What's more, this is a special starter price!

To my fellow Brits, that is about one pound for one mandarin!
To our American, Canadian and Australian friends, that is well over one of your lovely dollars for one mandarin. To our Kiwi friends you are looking at around two dollars...

Mandarins were the elite of Chinese society... not the workers... that's why they're so expensive. Wink

Get this. I was in a Lotte boutique mart, in the basement of a Lotte department store, yesterday. They had individual, wrapped apples for 8000won each. I wish I'd taken a picture. That is truly amazing, unfathomable pricing.

On a side not, they also had avacadoes. Which I've never seen here.

That would confirm that Korea is a superior nation. More expensive = better, correct.
