I would say that if you have to ask on this forum, then you're probably not that well equipped to be a recruiter.

If you don't speak Korean, and don't have any connections that will lead to a business partner, then what would you have to offer to a recruitment agency to convince them to hire you?

I've been researching recruitment for several months now, and I think it's something I want to do.

As far as I can tell, it's pretty much impossible to recruit unless you're partnered with someone with a Korean business license and the ability to speak Korean fluently or near-fluently when dealing with the schools.

What's the best way to find such a partner? Is it possible to "cold call" local recruitment agencies and offer them my services? has anyone else had experience with this?

I am a foreigner - a teacher (8 years) and also have been a part-time recruiter for over 6 years.

I only do recruiting (part-time) on the side - for companies wanting to place teachers into Public schools.

And even part-time - often starts off with early morning phone calls, heaps of email to sort through, constant bargaining with teachers and late night phone calls.

Trust me - as a Foreigner who may not speak Korean - you should not even be thinking about becoming a Full-time recruiter.

The legalities are difficult (getting yourself a business license/visa etc) and recruiting foreign teachers may seem easy to you - however - there are always problems...

As for contacting

trust me - they don't need you and they don't want you...

They already have many, many applications from teachers each day - and what they do is sort through the emails - pick the ones that look good, set up a meeting with those teachers and either employ those teachers or place them into schools.

Trust me - the rest of the applications are just discarded - so there is no shortage of teachers - they don't need someone like you to find the teachers for them - they already have enough teachers -

they just need to negotiate with teachers who may not have all their documents, are too fussy/demanding/greedy, and/or just don't seem suitable.

They don't need your services for that - and its not something I recommend getting into - as you may have noticed from this board - Foreign teachers in Korea are a mixture of unusual people.

However, if you still think you can do it - for sure - go ahead - but don't quit your day job - because you will need the money from your day job to pay the rent and bills.

Then problems DO occur - when a teacher who you thought was a lovely, talented, smart teachers turns out to be a criminal, gets caught taking drugs, or just acts badly at school - the blame all gets put back onto you - believe me - Immigration calls you in to investigate you - when they catch a "bad" foreigner - who did something bad - as you were the recruiter - you also get in trouble..

Then, sometimes - the teacher has problems as the school (even though half the time - the teacher is causing the problems) - and they blame everything on you - for giving them the job.

Sometimes - as a recruiter its a lose-lose situation.
p.s. do you want to wear a suit everyday?
