Does your co-teacher over-rule you?

What do you mean? As in matters relating to English (when you say it one way and they say it another) or in matters relating to discipline?

Anyway as regards the first that's yet to happen and as for the second, if there's a co-teacher I let them handle the discipline...otherwise I deal with it.

You should never let a co-teacher undermine you. Plan a consistant discipline policy before entering the class and stick to it.

In buracratic matters with the school, yes... While she's not really my "boss", I still treat her with that level of respect when it comes to dealing with school-related matters (IE: She asks me to do something, I do it - within reason... but I havn't been asked to do anything stupid like clean bathrooms yet *so*, lol)

In classroom matters I would say we're on equal footing, but only because we have just a good working relationship... We both defer to the other depending on who deals with a situation first...

chances are you'll have a few co-teachers, but you'll have one main handler. i find mine to be rather bossy: she likes to gives me extra work, if kids come to her for questions, she sends them on to me, she volunteered me for extra/free tutoring to another teacher at "anytime," she constantly asks me what i'm teaching in other grades and then comments like she's my boss (my favourite: "is that all?"), makes suggestions during my lessons when she should wait until after class, and i'm pretty sure delegates down paperwork to me.

nomad-ish,

I just curious...is she older or younger than you? May I ask how you deal with these situations she puts you in? I have had to deal with some frustrating co-teachers and I do like to hear constructive information on dealing with Korean co-teachers.

she's older than me, in fact, i'm the youngest teacher in this school Confused i usually just nod, shrug, i don't say much in response. as for the tutoring thing that totally pissed me off because she volunteered me right in front of me and didn't even take the 30 seconds required to turn and ask me if it was ok. i ended up telling her privately that i couldn't tutor this lady (i didn't do it at the time because i was shocked).

the only constructive advice i can give anyone is to choose your battles wisely, sometimes although it's uncalled for and annoying, it's best to just let it go until something more serious happens
