My school refuses to turn on the heat and they took my personal heater away because small heaters are against school regulations. I don't see a solution here.

One explanation: Times are suddenly tough here, and your employer is cutting costs. I remember last year at this time my school was buying all sorts of trifling items that I didn't want nor need. Now they've become tight-wadish.

Another explanation: Maybe it's not about budgets at all. Maybe you've become somebody they've gotten tired of and would like to see disappear. When they stop liking you here, meaning they can't exploit your novelty any longer, they will try to make your life difficult so you'll split.

Solution? Determine which of these explains what is going on and then make the 'stay or go' decision.

They snagged 11 heaters in total because an inspector got angry. I'm allowed to beg for it back. Doesn't matter because spring is almost here and I won't be in Korea come fall. I'm wearing a winter hat tomorrow.

This sounds like the OP was NOT singled out for special treatment. Does that make any difference, or is everything always about 'us' all the time, no matter what?

In the first year at my school, they let me use my own heater.

During Dec 08, my Principal suddenly told me I couldn't use it any longer.

At the time, he was in a bad mood over other issues at our school. My co-teacher and I also complained to him about each other.

I continued to use my heater, the Principal saw it and didn't say anything.

Mind you, I threatened to resign if my co-teacher didn't improve her behaviour.

OP - You must demand the heating be put on, if they refuse, tell them you need to have heat in order to stay alive and healthy.

Tell them if they can't provide heat, you'll be forced to bring in your heater.

If they say you can't do that, ask them if they'd like to see you die of cold, also ask them if it would look good for them if their native teacher died because they wouldn't allow him sufficient heating at school. Laughing

My school is with GEPIK. How about you?

Some of the stories I've read about public schools on this forum recently, have made me think about staying just where I am. My school isn't all that bad after all! Laughing

I'm quitting this year, so I don't really give a flying *beep*. They won't turn the heat on. They have the electric heaters locked up and I'm not buying a new one. It's all mightily immature and cheap--and a real case of rule-bookitis-asstightis.

I'll just wear ear muffs and a scarf. Thankfully I'm on the south coast, so it's warmer outside than in. I can work on the playground....

I sympathize. My central heater was broken for most of January. No one fixed it even though I complained. I ended up spending two hours at school in my parka and hat and then left at lunchtime. Seatwarming be damned

Start dating any paperwork, __/__/1890.

..........when asked for explanation just say you thought this must be the 19thC because a school can't provide any heating in Winter.

GEPIK gives each school thousands of dollars each year to get the Native speaker teacher what they need to do their job. I remember a few years back at a GEPIK meeting the speaker said something about wanting to know if schools are not spending the money on the native speakers, so now when I need something and I feel they are dragging their heelsI say something like, "GEPIK gives this school thousands of dollars each year to buy what I need to do my job. I need...." My friend at another public school used this phrase to get her heater when they were freezing her out. Whether GEPIK follows through on their promise to audit schools that are accused of not spending the money properly or not is unknown, but it has worked for me when I really need something.

I got flu in my last school (elementary) despite thermal underwear, gloves, jacket and cuddling a hot-water-bottle.

Falling asleep with the heat in the staffroom at this years HS.
