| A friend went to china recently and the bank advised him to take American dollars. I'm going on saturday but i think it makes sense to get yuan. What did u take (if you've been) or what do you recommend that i take? Thanks. |

Take yuan if you can, but it depends on what exchange rate the banks offer and how much money you want to take with you. When I went in July for a 10 day trip I took about 2000 yuan in cash, and the rest of my money in US dollars (cash and traveller's cheques). I exchanged as I needed.
It was much easier carrying all that money in US dollar denominations. Otherwise I would have had bulging pockets. It was pretty easy to exchange the US$ into yuan at the banks in Beijing and Xi'an.
Whatever you do, don't take Korean Won with you. I didn't see any places that were willing to exchange it. |
