During the school year I get paid extra for my 'after school' classes. Before winter break I am told that my 'winter camp' classes are cancelled, and that I will hand in a 'teaching report' instead. After that, I will contnue teaching the 'after school classes' for three weeks. I fully expected extra pay for those three weeks. Of course today, I'm told that won't be the case. Then why the hell did they refer to them as 'after school' classes? It was agreed at the beginning of my job that 'after schol' classes meant extra pay. I'm out 1.2 milion won that I expected and I'm pissed.
When will Koreans learn to communicate with us in clear, unambiguous language? Everthing is hidden, concealed, muddlede, or only partially revealed to us...and at the last friggin moment. |

Ummm...After school classes mean extra pay because they are OVERTIME!
During the vacation, you have no regular classes and as such your after school classes don't amount to overtime. Why do you expect to be paid overtime for teaching under your contracted amount of hours?
My take is that you were fully aware of the ambiguity and hoped to cash in. |

Well, if they did tell you that you wouldn't get paid, what would you have done? Quit?
I would take the time they have given you to not teach and get permission if you can to teach at a second location after school or on weekends. That's where your extra cash could come from. |

Did you teach outside of your contracted hours?
8:30:4:30 if so you can get some wedge if not.
Bend over lube up it only hurts a bit. |

I had to do a camp in the morning, then they gave me a couple of hours "extra class" in the afternoon. I was careful to make sure they were extra, ie extra money. I had to sign an extra contract for them as well as some little vouchers from the POE (I think they pay for some of the poorer kids to have extra tuition). |

The difference between you and the OP is, that you were teaching in the morning. I doubt the school would have paid you extra if you just rolled in at 12. |

As already stated, if those classes were outside of your contracted 8:30 - 4:30 hours then you are entitled to extra pay - it's in your contract, and if you have to you can escalate this to GEPIK - if not, well that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
And don't let anyone make you feel bad for trying to get paid for those lessons - the Korean teachers get paid extra for every lesson they do during the vacation period, even if the lessons are within their normal 'contracted' hours.
EDIT: I meant 'make you feel bad', not 'make you feel better'.

I was told I would get extra and then they pulled the old bait and switch claiming it`s part of my 22 hours. |

My school cancelled my after school classes for November and December and put them during the holidays because I have to teach them for free.
The Korean teachers get paid and I am sure the money from my classes fliters to someone. Not much I can do as I am contracted to do 22 classes a week.

Aren`t we all. I have a feeling the 6-4 teacher pocketed the English camp money since she was in charge. |
