I am not looking you flame you all, but I just have a question.
Did you hate Christians before coming to Korea? Or did you come here and start the hate them (us)?
If it's the 2nd one, I can fully understand, as I think Korea has got Christianity all wrong. I don't see how going into a subway car with a cross and shouting at people is spreading God's word. |

Amusingly, the first thing that went through my head upon reading the thread was, "Oh, for Christ's sake!" |

Part of me respects a person who will go into a carriage of strangers and stand up for his beliefs. Another part of me thinks its a bit obnoxious. But maybe no more so than someone selling combs or raincoats? |

Hate Christians? I don't hate my mum, my family or my friends.
Sure there are some I hate, why not they make silly claims they can't back then have a go at me because I don't 'see'.
I hate frustration, illogical claims and those who cannot back extraordinary claims with evidence.
And this is Dave's, so we gotta get our hate on. |

I did not like them before I came. But know I really don't like them. |

I felt sorry for them before I came, and found born agains to be freaks of nature, almost on par with Scientologists. But I tend to be biased towards people who read books and worship their characters as gods. |

Back home I didn't know that many devoted Christians at all. Most seemed to be in the process of giving it up or not caring or being angry at what they'd been made to believe.
When my sister was young, a Christian group told her that she had to convert to Christianity, and that her family was evil for not raising her Christian. Reason enough to be extremely wary around Christians.
One of my closest friends in junior high converted to Christianity and it ruined his life. He dropped out of school and told me "If Jesus wanted me to finish high school, it would automatically happen." He sold all his Spider-man comic books because he said Spider-man is doing work that only God should do. Yeah, God or cops. I had to stop talking to him because he would call me every single week and invite me to his church youth group thing. Every week for a year, and each time I told him no.
Basically, nearly every encounter I had with Christianity was of this nature. I've also known several Christians and ex-Christians, particularly Catholics, whose sex lives were screwed up by religious upbringings. |

I don't know if it is that people hate Christians. Rather it is the idea that it is being forced upon you, people knocking at my door every day, on the streets telling me that God loves me. Constantly slowing me down from my daily routine.
I don't hate Christians, or any other religion. I believe that people should have the freedom to believe in what they want. However, the Christians here remind me of the Jahovah's Witnesses back in North America, always canvassing the neighbourhood.
My only problem is when someone pushes their ideals upon me. You know, I may be wrong, and there may be a God, whichever one you want to pick from. And I was actually raised a Christian, and believe that there are many good lessons to be learned from it. But, I think that those lessons can be taught in other ways, and being good to all people around you, isn't a Christian or religious trait.
The idea of the many Holy wars that have come and gone, and the strife that continues to happen because of the diversity of religion is really saddening.
I have a tattoo on my thigh, with Jesus, Buddha, Mother Nature, Confusius and Zeus all hanging out, smoking peace pipes, or drinking their bevy of choice. That is my belief, that if all these Gods did exist, they would be partying it up, rather than taking each other on in a K1 match. |

I'm a firm believer in freedom from religion. So far, all of the Christians I've met won't leave me alone--they keep inviting me to their church every week (and they're all Korean!). I just tell them that I won't understand the service.
I don't know of any other religion where a key component is converting "nonbelievers." I remember driving down the interstate back home and seeing a sign that read "Possessing the Earth for Christ," and had American flags on all of the countries where this particular church had sent missionaries...scary. |

To be honest, I think I actually like Christians a little more since coming to Korea. In America they're ALL assholes. Either hypocrites or chickenhawks. In Korea I've met a few decent people who are also Christian. It was really hard for me to reconcile the fact that it's possible for someone to be religious AND an okay person.
Having said that, there are WAY more annoying Christians here than back home. I very rarely, if ever, got bugged by Jesus-freaks in the US, but here it's a fairly normal occurence. |

I pray that you don't make it to Hell for your nice comment about Christians. Amen. |

It's not so much as hating the people, as thinking anyone who considers themselves a christian is an idiot(same goes for most other religions).
In asking this question, and taking pride in calling yourself a christian, I can only assume you've never actually read the bible or you're an idiot. There really aren't any other options.
The scientific, historic and logical flaws and errors in the bible are too numerous to mention (or too count). Then there's all the contradictions. Then there's all the things that people are to be put to death for. Then there's all the rules that NO ONE follows.
If you can get through the first chapter of genesis and not think 'this is full of crap', than you're an idiot. Read it again, and the only question that should be going through your mind is 'who believes this sh-t?'
So I guess it's kind of like 'hate the sin, love the sinner.' The sin in this case being christianity. |

Here we go again.... an idiot saying idiot is an idiot.
I don't think it's not a bad thing to believe in something.... It doesn't bother me a bit as long as they don't over do it like the extremists. |

It's actually quite funny in a way, when some Korean Christians show their ignorance by coming up to Westerners and talking about Jesus, like they think we've never heard of the guy. It would be like me going to India and walking the streets telling them about Buddha.
Remember though, lots of Korean Christians don't do this shit. It's just a few wack jobs. Same as the one's who speak in tongues. If you're doing that, you seriously need to be slapped. |
