|
|
Whenever I stop to look at the license plates, say while standing in a parking lot, often well over half the plates will have two numbers repeated (i.e., 4742), and sometimes three repeated, or all four the same number. Just in the past couple of days I noticed two plates that had all four numbers the same - as in 3333.
Now, I don't live in Seoul, and I don't know if this applies in all parts of Korea. But I have been watching this for some time here, and it sure seems to exceed random chance, though I will admit I don't know what the statistical odds are. I wonder if they use some sort of formula that causes this?
Has anyone else noticed that a surprising number of license plates in Korea have at least two digits repeated? |

I think that with 4 digits it is 3/10 (for the first number being repeated) + 2/10 + 1/10, giving you 6/10.
So 60% of 4 digit numbers with have two numbers the same.
Disclaimer: it has been a long time since I taught this stuff, and even longer since I learnt it.

You have lots of cars and only 10 digits of which 4 must be used to make a license plate #. Stands to reason there'd be more than a few repeat numbers. |
