I'm wanting to get a short visa extension. Don't want to extend my working contract at all, I just want to be able to stay a few days longer.

So, how do you get a short-term extension for your visa?

From the scraps I've gathered from various other threads, all you need to do is go to Immigration with your Alien Residency Card and passport, ask them to extend it, fork over the two documents, give them W45-50,000, and pick it all up again in a few days.

Is that all there is to it?

Do you get a brand new ARC, or just some sort of date-extension stamp on the back of it?

Here's my particular problem:

I arrived in Korea on 2003 March 27th, but the idiots at Incheon International stamped "March 21" in my passport for no apparent reason. As such, my ARC is scheduled to expire on 2004 March 21st, despite my boss expecting me to stay until March 27.

As such, I need an extension for at least 6 more days.

Are extensions always for 30 days? Or can you request a time... say, two weeks?

And do I have to pay for this extension, seeing as it was Immigration's error up in Incheon that caused this whole problem?

If you only need a short extension it's not a problem. You need your passport, arc and you also need a plane ticket showing the date of departure.

You can get a few days or a few weeks. Whatever the departure date is on the ticket leaving Korea. You are leaving right? Or am I making too much of an assumption?

When my last contract was close to ending, my ARC was set to expire a full week before I finished working. So I got my plane ticket from the school and went to immigration in Incheon with it. Filled out the form for extension of sojourn. Gave it to the officer at the "all other countries" counter and within 20 minutes got everything back. My visa was marked USED, my ARC was stamped with FINAL EXTENSION.

Didn't have to pay anything for this either.

Very simple so no worries.

Cheers

Any chance of getting a visa extension without having an airline ticket already purchased?

I'm thinking of getting a two-week visa extension just in case my boss tries anything funny with my final pay and severance pay, so I could stick around legally long enough to get what is owed.

I doubt I'll get screwed, but you never know, and it's always good to have an ace up your sleeve.....
