Hey everbody
I have been offered a posisiton in Nampeong Elementery School in Naju.
I want to be in rural Korea so i think Naju will suit me. Does anyone have any helpful information on the school or the area?
Apperently, im the first foreign teacher at this school as part of Korea's English language expansion program, what ever that is.

Naju is a city of about 100,000 people in the southwestern province. Nampyeong is a neighborhood within Naju. It's between downtown Naju and neighboring Gwangju, a city of about 1.5 million.
As for Naju itself it's all right, but nothing special. Some people don't like not having Western big box stores or Western restaurants, or even a variety of Korean food. Others don't like having a large group of fellow English teachers around; I think there are only two native speakers in town, but there are many more of course in Gwangju. If you want rural you can find it there, although since it's technically a city you can find more rural in Jeollanam-do. There are a number of tourist attractions there, and in the surounding province. |

Naju is fameous for pears. Apparently they grow the best pears in the country. I am a little envyous because I think Korean pears are the best I've ever tried.
The islands along Cholla Nam Do's south coast are very pretty too.
Good luck. |

It's a nice place and you can't really go wrong with the location if you want rural life. |

Thanks very much for your insightful comments.
I am a little nervous about being so 'out of the way' but i figure i can stick it for a year even if i end up drinking alone every night.
Really looking forward to the pears and the scenary. |
