Me and a buddy o' mine put together a rock band and we've been playing Open Mic Nights in Anyang and Suwon for about a year, and we're looking for more members to swell our ranks.

Right now we have me, who writes all the music, most of the lyrics and plays drums. My buddy, Brian is the singer/guitarist. And we have Alex who plays bass with us.

The concept behind our band (yes, we have a concept and no, we're not willing to bend on this most important point.) is to write rock songs about comic books, video games, fantasy novels ... you get the idea. Nerd rocks songs. We'd be just like Horse the Band if we were that awesome. But we're not yet.

We're a rock band that routinely causes every Korean in the bar to leave, pretending to talk on their cell phones. We think this is awesome, and high fives are frequently given. And we're working on becoming heavier with every performance.

Basically, to the members needed. Another guitarist would be a godsend. We need someone with a) a sense of rhythm, b) a sense of humor and c) can take criticism and/or orders. We're not looking for showboats, we want someone who can rock out and enjoy themselves doing it. A singer would be nice. Brian has a ... utilitarian voice. He does what needs to be done, but he has his limitations. Keyboards would put us closer to that Horse the Band sound. A ... cello player? Yeah, that would be ... sure, whatever. No horns. We hate ska and all things ska-related.

Right now I write all the songs and am basically the dictator of the band. This is not ideal. I don't want to be the dictator, but the singer/guitarist is lazy, and our bass player is a busy busy man. So I have to do all the work and then teach them how to play the songs.

Oh, we pretty much have only original material. We do a couple of Monster Magnet songs, and a couple other covers, but there's not a whole lot out there that falls within the range of our concept/abilities/desires to drive Koreans out of bars.

We play in C-tuning (read: metal tuning), and I rock the double bass on the drums.

If you're interested, PM me or send me an email at [email protected]

Sorry, I'm only here to mock your unintentional hilarity.

I'm quite sure that the shittiest ska band here is better than your band. I'm not a ska fan either.

I thought drop-D was the standard "metal" tuning. I could be wrong, I went to the Johnny Ramone school of guitar playing.

It's true, I've seen them, and they're not.

And foreigners too!

Ouch, diss to your singer. I wonder if he's on Dave's, too. I'll tell you something, his outta-tune axe may be hard on the ears, but keeping your outta-time drums set to "deafen" at all times doesn't help your sound much either...

(Though in all honesty, I secretly do like your nerdy band concept)

If I weren't so far out of town, I would be in this band in an instant, just for the schlock factor. That's what rock is all about.

Do you play any Kyuss? Sky Valley was awesome.

Here are my audition tapes (and I think I know Brian from the veggie club):

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/a9995bac ("Eve of Destruction" - folk rock)

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/b0dc571c ("More than a Feeling" - arena rock/pop)

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/c01247322 ("Heaven and Hell" - heavy metal)

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/af99aba6 ("Light My Fire" - psychedelic rock)

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/bb12a8826 ("White Bird" - rock-jazz-folk-classical fusion)

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/ad112da76 ("Got My Mind Set On You" -
rock)

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/bafb7d32 (In a Gadda Da Vida - acid rock)

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/b1a0558a (Born to Be Wild - hard rock)

Actually, after listening to these songs again I've decided to abandon any hopes of a singing career - good luck finding someone!

No, no, you've got it all wrong. I don't play outta-time, I just play in pi/4 time.

What a well thought out argument. I half expected to see "lols ur such teh fag" at the end.

And the Ramones aren't metal. They're punk.

Wow, not that I ever took you very seriously before, but now there's little chance of it ever happening.

Well, I've got a lot of time (one class in the morning, and they let me go), I live in a small remote rural town, I don't have much money, and I decided to enter a singing contest that includes heavy metal music (on the karaoke site I belong to and sometimes use in class...)

Although I really get into it (in the spirit of second childhood...) I think I maintain enough sense of detachment to keep from getting too carried away...

Actually, the Singsnap site has some good forums I've also started to post on, and I've gotten PMs from interesting people located all around the world...

Regarding Rob Zombie, he's got at least two things going for him - he's vegetarian, and he's from Massachusetts ...

The link I gave before was my last outtake - trying to light sparklers threw my off my timing. I entered this - my first take - in the contest:
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/bd12e50e8

The artwork leaning against the wall is my own - when I'm too old to teach I might have to do the art show circuit (and movie extra work) to supplement my meager Social Security income...

Here's a video of us playing the January 09 Battle of the Bands in Anyang, so you can see what's what.

The song is about becoming a zombie.
