My partner and I have been offered positions at the English Village in Ansan. Can anyone give me some feedback on either what they've heard or experienced from the working conditions and hours there. |

You will be paid on time.
You will be given a decent apartment.
You will have a 40 minute commute to work every day.
You will teach about 30 contact hours a week.
The English Village in Ansan changed ownership last year, how this impacts on those who works there I do not really know. Although I have heard that people were asked to come in on Saturdays, the number of people working there has been cut by about 50% since 2004 as a result you work a lot harder for your buck.
In 2004 starting salaries were around 2.6, I believe since the takeover they are about 2.2 (I may be really wrong on that)
There are many better positions available in the ROK it really depends on what you want to do |

Yeah, I live in Ansan. I know some people who work at an English village but not positive if its the one yu applied for.
The hours where my friend works, are horrible. They have to work sat and sun and only get paid 100 and something for 2 days! they also seem to have to work on korean public holidays when no one else does.
Check with 2 teachers already there. (get their email addresses and ask)
It could be a different English village though. |

There are many jobs with much better hours, esp afterschool programs or public schools |

Watergirl is right you do work public holidays, but you also get one week off at chuseok and one week off at new year and 14 paid days as well so it works out about the same if not more than many hogwons who offer 10 days plus public holidays and if you haven't noticed most public holidays are on a Saturday this year.
If vacation is your prioriity then I would try P.S. or a uni as they do have lots of downtime. |
