I can't install any virus protection (tried several brands). Apparently because I have viruses. Will doing a repair with the installation solve the problem without reformatting? What are thr pros and cons of doing this?

maybe, but probably not im guessing.

Choices are the following.

a) Take it to someone to fix - waste of money.

b) fix it yourself, download spybot search and destroy, download AVG Free - from download.com. First install spybot, undate it then disconnect from the net and run it. Then download AVG and do exactly the same. This combo should catch most things.

c) format and reinstall and lose everything on your computer. Be careful if you back up to a drive before you format because you might just copy that virus over.

install an antivirus on a usb at a pc bang or friends computer and do it that way.

Pros.
1. You don't need to install your program anymore, so you can still keep your current configuration of your computer as it is.
2. You don't need to lose your data that is stored on the same drive with your operating System because usually if you format your computer you will format the operating system drive.
Cons.
1. You need to do extra work, because cleaning virus without formatting little bit more difficult.
2. You have to clean your computer carefully because there are possibilities of virus placed everywhere on your computer.
