I know Korea only runs on CDMA cellular services, which pretty much locks out cellular phones from most other countries. But are there restrictions on the CDMA phone itself? As long as it's CDMA, will it work?
I can't stand the few choices of cell phones that are on the market here. They ALL seem to use a Korean proprietary OS. I'm a tech junky, so I gotta have my techy toys and phones, with OS's you can customize, i.e. Symbian OS, Java, Windows Mobile, etc. They all let you install software at your whim (dictionaries, games, schedulers, messaging tools, etc), sync it to my comp, use bluetooth PC remote controls, etc.
Since it seems Nokia's, iPhones, Smart Phones, etc aren't sold here, am I pretty much SOL? Or would it be possible to purchase an unlocked CDMA phones like the Nokia 6265i or Nokia 627 online and then program them to work here?
Sorry for all the Q's, I've asked my local Korean friends and even a couple Westerners here but no one seems to really know much about cell phones. Thanks a ton for any info! |

Nokia are making a presence in Korea. Not sure how big though, think they are planning on breaking into the market this year. It was on their website a while back.

Really, not one person knows the answer to any of these questions? Where are all the computer nerds who get jobs in Seoul, etc? Anyone ever get an unlocked CDMA phone to work in Korean (on their korean cellular networks - not international roaming with a foreign carrier)? |

Just wait til they drop the mechanism blocking foreign 3G phones from working here in April. IPRI or something like that. Then the iPhone and crackberry will be the phones du jour. |

Ah, interesting, thanks. Just what I needed to know. Looks like I have to suck it up, and most likely wait half a year for anything quality to get released. Dumb WIPI... |
