|
|
Whoever asked the other day about extending an E-2 for a couple of days - maybe ruffledfeathers.
I just called up to check and see what I had to do for the remaining three days that I need my visa extended for to complete the year.
IT'S EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED TO APPLY FOR AN ARC CARD OR A NEW VISA.
-CRC
-Health check
-Business Registration
- Contract
-ARC
-AP form 34
- Reference from principal
- something else I can't remember
and 30,000Won
FFS - that is taking the piss.
Or of course I could sit on my arse for 3 days and not go to work for free. |

are you sure they understood?
i have twice had to extend my visa when i was leaving at the airport because of misunderstandings (one mine, one theirs, i think)
and both times i just paid 30,000. but maybe that was different, not too sure... |

I called 1345 today and was told I could file for a 'departure extension' and stay here up to a month longer. All I'd need is my passport, my ARC, and my plane ticket. I was also told I can do it online at
www.hikorea.go.kr
The counselor told me it's free, but the website states it costs 30,000.
Can anyone confirm? I wanna be out of here as soon as my school has paid me all it owes me, I've gotten my tax refund, and my pension refund has been set up. I hope this won't be more than a few days beyond Feb 28. I'd hate to have to deal with red tape for three weeks in March. I'd rather spend my tax refund on diving lessons in the tropics, not on Korean flophouses and legal fees. |

This is to extend my ARC by 3 days because of the schools fark up with the contract - or cheekily changing the date so I started on a monday after I got here.
The woman understood clearly. I checked to make sure I was hearing the right thing for a three day extension of my contract and she said yes.
The other option is to extend it with my outbound flight ticket and not work |

If you are extending your period of sojourn to work it costs W30,000 and you need all the documentation listed in the OP - one day, or one year... it makes no difference.
If you are extending for non-work purposes (up to 30 days), it's free and you must have your ticket out of K-land. |

This info is correct. You basically apply for a tourist visa without having to leave the country. It does mean that you can't legally work, but if it's just a few days until the end of your contract, I don't think it matters.
It's definitely free. I applied for mine online this morning at www.hikorea.go.kr. The one you want to apply for is a "Temporary extension of stay for departure of registered foreigners".
This is not to be confused with the "Extension of stay for departure of registered foreigners". This one costs 30,000 won and involves a lot more paperwork.

Thanks for the info. I will assume I'll be able to get the extension to some date beyond Feb 28 even if my contract, visa, and ARC all expire on the same day--Feb 28. From what I was told, my new departure day can be 30 days later. Just gotta take 'em the 'big three' PP, ARC, ticket.
Now. Time to look for some cheap flights somewhere over the rainbow.

ACtually they will owe me two days over a year if I stay until the 11th......which has just caused amused faces. |

I recently learned that this isn't true.
Under Korean law, a worker who has worked more than half of a given month (i.e., past the 15th), is considered to have worked the entire month for contract and wage purposes.
This is according to my fiancee, who is the HR generalist for a Korean government-affiliated research institute and works with these issues on a day-to-day basis.
Ergo, if a school attempts to deny contractual benefits (severance, plane ticket, etc.) because your visa status expires a day or two before the end of the month, they're ripping you off. Take them to the labor board and win. |

Thanks, Cruise. This helps, too. Getting good info here one can actually use can be like pulling teeth at times, but not this time. |

I did the latter and didn't have a place ticket out, and it was never asked for. |
