Christians believe that unrepentant sinners don't go to heaven. If a house was burning and a Christian fireman had the opportunity to save either an unrepentant sinner or a faithful Christian then it seems like the ethical thing to do would be to save the sinner. In both instances you are saving a mortal life, however in the case of the sinner you are also (possibly) saving a soul from damnation.
Edit: just wondering because I thought the bus was going to crash today. I was wondering how I'd decide who gets out if there was only a limited amount of time to escape through the roof. |

I think in a real situation like that the practical side would take over and religion would be temporarily put aside until the next confession. |
