Girlfriend put DS in laundry machine. I heard the clunking and took it out.

Anyway, both screens have water behind them. Top screen no longer has backlighting, but bottom screen still does. Both screens have 'puddles' of water behind them.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I broke a camera twice by letting hell loads of sand get in to it and the Sony AS center fixed it for free. Are Nintendo that cool? If they were, I'd love them forever.

Is it worth taking it to a Nintendo AS center and demand they fix it, or should I suck it up and buy a new one? If the latter, I don't think I'll be buying a DSi because I like my R4 card too much haha.

No promises...
Leave it out to dry for 48 hours, recharge, then try it. Most electronics can handle water if given ample time to dry.

It you have tried to turn it on it is probably stuffed. Also most electronics do not cover water damage

hair dryers are known to do wonders. But as stated before it is recommended not to try and turn it on until it is completely dry. Usually water damage is the most common thing to void warranties, but I do not know the DS's policy on that matter.

Where did you get your DS?

I broke mine recently (the top screen turns off if I open it fully, but I can still kind of play as long as I don't) and I went to Nintendo's website to see if they could repair it. After looking around I found that it wasn't covered under warranty anymore, but I could order a replacement from Nintendo for $100 (Canadian) instead of paying the $130 for a new one at the store. I'm still trying to decide if I should do that or wait for the new version (I read it'll be out between May and October) since it adds some new features.

Almost forgot, let it sit in a bowl of rice. The ice will suck water out super fast. A night in a bowl of rice is like a night in the sahara.

Hmm.

Upon it happeneing I removed the battery and carts and every other removable thing and let it dry for 48hrs. Then I put it back together. It's been more than 2 weeks now but the water behind the screen shows no signs of leaving haha. It turns on fine, it's just that there are puddles behind both screens and the top one is pretty much invisible due to the light not working.

Maybe the bowl of rice thing will work at getting rid of the water.. if the water disappears then the only problem I have is the lack of backlighting on the top screen.. I can claim ignorance and say it just stopped working at the AS center. No need to tell them it was in the washing machine.

Oh and as to putting it in the dryer... like 99% of the population in S. Korea, I don't have a dryer haha.
