I brought mine here in a soft bag. I took the strings off and stuffed it with socks and underwear and padded the bag with more clothes. It was nothing special, so I wasn't particularly worried about it. I've since had two other guitars get broken doing the same thing though. Once on my way to Thailand and then again on the way back with the guitar I bought there to replace the one broken in transit. I wouldn't recommend it with a nice guitar.

You can find plenty of guitars and any other imaginable instrument at the Nakwon music arcade. Personally I'd leave the guitar at home if you have a place to keep it. That way you will have room to bring something new and different with you when you do go back home from Korea.

I've an acoustic, but I also hauled along my Gibson SG and a platter of pedals so I can play something other than play hippie campfire music.

Picked up another electric along the way, and am looking for a nice semi-hollowbody these days.

You can pack your gear onto the plane, no prob. Best now than later -- overseas shipping'll set you back at least a coupla benjamins. Or you can ferry your stuff across on a cheap one-month slowboat, but that's sketchier.

Don't bring it. Buy one when you get here. I got a BEAUTIFUL electric guitar about a month ago here, and it plays and sounds great.

I'm bringing my baby with me this time around. I don't care what they say, I'm tired of leaving it back home in suspended animation and I'm tired of playing cheap Korean guitars.

It's a 2005 Fender Stratocaster Deluxe, made in America, in mint condition.

Try finding one of these babies at Nakwon Arcade...for less than 3 million.

Here are some pics.

Anyway, I'm just gonna carry it on to the plane(s). I'll just count it as one my my carry-ons...come what may!

I'm not certain that you can carry on a guitar. Isn't there a size restriction on carry-on luggage?

They tend to make allowances for musical instruments. Depending on the airline.

If I had to do it all again I would have left my Martin at home and bought a somewhat descent acoustic electric here, maybe not even electric. We shipped a container of goods over and thanks to the clusterf-k that is customs, it was 4 months before we got our stuff.

If you're bringing an electric with a bolted-on neck, just undo it, pack it between your clothes in your luggage, and rebolt the neck back on when you get here.

That's what I did w/my custom tele; worked out great. I packed it in my biggest bag that was reiforced, though.

I brought my Seagull S-6 with me 12 years ago. No problem. I would suggest you get a TREK Case from Godin and put it in the Fragile-oversized luggage. Get lots of FRAGILE stickers on it.

FWIW, you can get lots of nice acoustics over on this end. Just be careful with Air Canada. They have a long legacy of destroying acoustic guitars. (E.g. John Allen Cameron & Stan Rogers~ also went down on AC!)
