I've been accepted by SMOE and I think my training starts in about a month so I'll be heading to Korea then.
I got a package saying that I would have to take a HIV test and a drug test due to a new law in Korea.
Some are saying your co-teacher will take you to get it done on your first day in Korea some are saying you have 3 months to get these done. So can I refuse when my co-teacher tries to take me to the hospital on my first day to get it done at my own time within 3 months? or would I have to follow him/her to get it done?
ps: i've already applied for f-4 visa.
Thanks guys |
It sould be stated in you contract. My contract specifically says 'within 90 days upon arrival.' |

Immigraiton's rule for E-2 visa holders says you must submit a medical test, including drug and AIDS test, that you obtained in Korea in order to get your ARC. This must be submitted within 90 days of arrival.
If, and only if, you signed a contract that specifies different dates, then you must follow your contract.
Most employers don't put this in the contract.
This happened a year ago to new SMOE teachers. Within a week, SMOE said "You must get your medical test this week." It wasn't in the contract and was unenforcable. |

Immigration gives you 90 days to get your ARC. This is the rule for foreigners in Korea for 90 days or more.
However, if you are working in Korea, there are other rules that may be more important to you.
You cannot be registered for Health Insurance or Pension without your ARC. So, if you chose to delay, you will not be enrolled or covered, but you will eventually have to pay retroactively. Also, for teachers, you must be registered with the local department of education with 10 days of your first work day as a teacher, otherwise you are an illegal teacher and your school will face penalties, if caught. To be registered requires a copy of the teacher's ARC.
In otherwords, to be a legal teacher in Korea, you need to get your ARC within 90 days of arrival for Immigration, ASAP for health and pension, and within 10 days of starting work to be a legal teacher in the eyes of the Education office. |

No arc equals no bank account which equals no pay which equals living under a bridge doing more drugs for the depression which further delays the drug test.
It's an evil circle. Say no to drugs and yes to Arc. |

They take blood and urine.
Although you have 90 days to get your ARC, technically you are paying for Health insurance once you set foot in country with an E2 visa. You can't get your health insurance card without getting your ARC.
D.D. you can get a bank account with your passport. You don't require an ARC to get one. |

Dear Genisis,
Please stop ruining the English langauge. This isn't a cell phone and you don't have to type like a teenager. Please use proper words and phrases. For God's sake you're an English teacher; practice what you preach. |

Word.
To everyone else, I was under the impression that the drug test (for marijuana) stopped being a visa requirement because there is only one hospital in Korea that can do said test. Is this right or have I got the wrong end of the stick? |
