I'm applying.
I am going to send pictures with my resume. I sport a beard. Not out of control. It is nicely kept.
I am just wondering if it is acceptable or professional to have a beard as a teacher. I don't look dirty.
Assuming it is a beard that would fly as professionally acceptable in the uS, how would it go over?
I am just wondering if there is a cultural thing that I should know.
Anyone? |

They prefer everyone to look like brad pitt and gwyneth paltrow, but i've seen beards, tattoos, darks, lights, korean-americans, etc here. Just send a picture with you smiling and a neat resume and you shouldn't have a problem. FWIW, i have long curly hair and easily found a job. |

I have a beard and shaved head. I had no problem getting a public school job. I also look middle eastern. |

If anyone asks, just point to the money! The most respected Korean men had beards. |

I applied with a goatee and had no problem. I soon shaved it off because I discovered beards generally don't go over so well here, but it didn't cause any problems in the hiring process. |

I normally sport some kind of facial hair. Although I didn't have it when I sent in my picture I doubt that it would have affected peoples opinion that much. |

When I first came to K-land my passport picture had been taken the day I got back from over three months at sea without shaving (I looked rather ZZ 'Topish'). It didn't seem to make any difference... probably because my other picture was of me in a tux looking rather 'dapper'. I still have a (neatly trimmed) beard and when Ks ask "Why?" I just smile at them and answer "Because I can." |
