|
|
I'd like to work at a public school next year. What's grades do you teach for elementary?
I know that elementary grades are 1-6, but I once read about PS teachers mainly teaching grades 4 and up. Is that true? I don't mind teaching some fifth- and sixth-grade classes, but I definitely wouldn't like it if the majority of my classes consisting of those levels. I prefer the younger groups.
I suppose that it depends on the individual school, but I'd at least try to get an average, anyway. Thanks |

I teach only Grades 3-6.
Grade 3: 4 classes a week.
Grade 4: 4 classes a week.
Grade 5: 8 classes a week.
Grade 6: 6 classes a week
I'm with GEPIK. I've also recently acquired an online TESOL certificate.
That entitles me to belittle others and speak as though I am very dedicated to teaching.
Word. (For any posters unaware of the use of the word 'word', that means I'm really fashionable in North America). |

I teach grades 2 through to 6. There are textbooks from grade 3 onwards only as officially they don't start learning English until grade 3. It was the decision of the principle at my school for year 2 to also have English lessons. As there's no textbook and no set curriculum, I just devise my own lessons for the year 2s. |

I teach K-6, and man am I hoarse by Fridays. Want my job?
I read or heard from a couple places/people that the government is expanding compulsory English education to first grade [...and across the country, foreheads slam onto PS desks]. I don't know when this is being implemented, or if it's even final, but I guess that would give you a better chance of working more with the younger kids. |

I work at a GEPIK elementary school and I teach grades 3 to 6.
I teach 3's and 5's one week and then the next 4's and 6's. I actually prefer the younger kids. The grade 6's are my least favourite. I asked my coteacher when we'd start teaching grade 1's and 2's and she didn't know exactly, but thought it might be starting in 2010 or 2011. |

I teach grades 4-6 and the grade 3's show up at my after school classes and are very shy. Grade 6 students are rude. |

I 've been told a new set of books and more classes are slated for 2010-11. Maybe 6th and 5th grade three times a week and 1st/2nd grade once a week possibly. |

I teach 4-6.. Might depend on the size of your school and if they want each class to have a class with you once a week. With 4-6 I already only see every class once a week.. so 22 classes total (8 4th grade, 7 5th grade, and 7 6th grade). Grades 4-6 have about 750 kids total. Oh but for winter camp I taught grades 2-5, so maybe you'll see little ones during the camps? >_> |

Last semester I taught 3rd and 6th grade (once a week). Starting in March, I will be teaching 5th and 6th grade.
I was told they want to focus English education on the older students. This might make sense, since my 3rd graders can converse better than most of the 6th graders. I'm going to miss the younger ones. |
