I was 4 Kg over on one bag last week at Incheon, and the airline was going to bust me for 104,000 won. Of course, they regularly allow people on flights whose BMI is in the LARD range. Will they ever start charging overweight PEOPLE? Let's be fair here, airlines.

Try flying on other carriers. The prices are better, service is better and they don't have the extra charges tacked on.

Would be cool if they did luggage weight allowances based on a formula starting with body weight where if you're lighter, you can carry more. This would allow a 120 pound passenger to carry 80 pounds more than a 200 pound passenger. Maybe allow a max traveler weight of say 300 pounds and then sell extra weight allowances? If the airlines managed and knew their actual flying weight, then they could accurately manage for profitability and know how much money they'll make on each flight and as an airline.

Would be quite an incentive to lose weight and then you save on food costs while you're at it too.


I like it how you can sneak a few extra unaccounted for pounds in your carry on since they usually don't weigh it, but I bet that doesn't go on for much longer.

All this talk of punishing people for being overweight vis-a-vis luggage weight limits doesn't take into consideration people who are heavy but healthy.

What I mean by this is people like me: I'm 6'2"/185 cm and 210 pounds/95 kg. Am I fat? No. I'm very athletic and exercise 9 times per week. My bodyfat is around 13% (healthy range for men is 12%-15%), I can deadlift 418 pounds, and have a 12.5 second 100 meter sprint.

Should I be "punished" for being "overweight"? I guess I do cost more fuel than a lighter person, but does this apply to me too?

The fees would be based on BMI, specifically those whose BMI is in the obese range. If I have to pay extra for a bag that's 10 pounds overweight, I think a person who's 50 pounds overweight should have to pay at least a little more. What, I have to pay 100,000 won for my 4-kg-over bag, yet LardAss gets a free pass?

I'll have to compare obesity with porn. We all know it when we see it. What's the percentage today of Americans who are classfied as being "obese"? My peeve is with Americans and their lack of ability to say NO to themselves.
