Got sloppy with downloads and I have a virus that dismantled my antivirus and won't let me install a new one. It's taking over my machine What do I do?

Go to system restore, under help and support. It the virus has already killed that start your computer up in safe mode and run an antivirus. If that doesn't work reformat

If you have access to an external harddrive case, put your harddrive in and remove any important files. run a virus check on your hardrive and if you are lucky the antivirus can remove the virus without stuffing up your windows. If unlucky reinstall.

Yeah, try downloading Kaspersky onto a memory key (using another computer) and installing their AV application onto your computer.

Also, if you know exactly what the virus is, you can use one of their free removal tools:

In the end, you may be so hosed that you need to reformat and reinstall from your recovery disks. You can try to get into safe mode and save off important files before you do this.

you will probably just have to reinstall windows. you wont lose anything that isnt associated with windows. you will have to reinstall most of your programs. otherwise get an external drive. copy whats important off and reformat.

you have to check what kind of virus attacks your computer, just try look at the strange sign from your computer and search using google or another search engine. After knowing what kind of virus it is, you can find solution too from internet. May be some one has the same problem with you and already solved it. Good luck

Yea, just save what you need and do a clean format and install. Best way to go.
